Product Description

This dark and controversial graphic novel, which features a terrorist as hero (or anti-hero, depending on one's point of view), inspired a 2006 film starring Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman. After a nuclear war devastates the world, England dissolves into chaos, making it ripe for a fascist takeover a few years later. But one man dares to defy the government's iron grip: a man in a smiling Guy Fawkes mask who has quite a way with explosives, almost unearthly fighting skills, and an amazing ability to penetrate the tightest security. What face lies behind the mask of the anarchist who calls himself V and what is his true agenda?

V for Vendetta, by Alan Moore & David Lloyd

Date of Review:  Apr 19, 2006
The Bottom Line: Not as good as WATCHMEN, but really what is?
Review: I should have learned my lesson by now. Every time I read Alan Moore's work, it makes me want to go back to everything I've ever written and burn it. The latest of his "You'll Never Be This Good" books is the comic book graphic novel V FOR VENDETTA...

The Bottom Line: It's good, but it's not Great. Well worth a read in every sense but better as a look back than a starting point.
Review: This is one of those frequent times that my opinion of this book is influenced by my perspective of it. For the uninitiated I m going to give a brief summary of these factors and if you know anything about comics this is probably a section you can...

Literary in Scope

Date of Review:  Aug 25, 2002
The Bottom Line: Written with fervor, this masterpeiece is the most thought provoking graphic novel ever scripted and drawn. Highly recommended.
Review: Comic books have always lagged behind when it came to be taken seriously by the literary medium. People just thought that comics were set to target preadolscent boys. That notion,of course, is wrong. Most people who buy their comics from specialty...

Professional Reviews

Onion A.V. Club: "V FOR VENDETTA's mix of comfort-food dystopia, muted humanism, bleak poetry, and technical virtuosity is a far more palatable icebreaker, and one that serves equally as an entree into mainstream and underground comics. And the bottom line? In spite of its grim tone and literary air, it's still got a guy in a cape and a mask kicking [butt]."
