Product Description

What should we have for dinner? When you can eat just about anything nature (or the supermarket) has to offer, deciding what you should eat will inevitably stir anxiety, especially when some of the foods might shorten your life. Today, buffeted by one food fad after another, America is suffering from a national eating disorder. As the cornucopia of the modern American supermarket and fast food outlet confronts us with a bewildering and treacherous landscape, what's at stake becomes not only our own and our children's health, but the health of the environment that sustains life on earth. Pollan follows each of the food chains--industrial food, organic or alternative food, and food we forage ourselves--from the source to the final meal, always emphasizing our coevolutionary relationship with the handful of plant and animal species we depend on. The surprising answers Pollan offers have profound political, economic, psychological, and even moral implications for all of us.--From publisher description.

Date of Review:  May 27, 2007

Review: The Omnivore's Dilemma - Michael Pollan

It's probably fitting that during the several weeks I spent reading Michael Pollan's The Omnivore's Dilemma in fits and snatches, I kept an advertisement for some bold new "power beverage" tucked...

Date of Review:  Jan 11, 2007
The Bottom Line: I wish I could've been briefer, but there was so much to mention. I didn't even tell ya the kinky way corn has sex!
Review: When I spied Michael Pollan s 2006 non-fiction book, The Omnivore s Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals, in the display section of my library, it didn t matter that I haven t been an omnivore for two decades. I loved his book, The Botany of...

Your head will explode after reading this book

Date of Review:  Mar 18, 2007
The Bottom Line: This is one of the better, completely one sided books on the market. Great concepts that truly make you think about what you eat.
Review: I have always been a somewhat healthy eater. This isn't as much because I really wanted to ensure that everything I consumed was good for me as much as I really just enjoyed the consumption of fruits and vegetables. As I don't really enjoy eating...
