Alan Moore - The Killing Joke Books

Alan Moore - The Killing Joke

Consumer Rating: Alan Moore - The Killing Joke Reviews and Ratings - Rating 5/5   See 9 reviews  | Write a review
Information: Product details
Price Range: $9.00 - $13.00 at 4 stores
In this now infamous Batman tale, Alan Moore--who also crafted WATCHMEN and V FOR VENDETTA--paints a painfully psychotic portrayal of one of the Dark Knight?s most formidable enemies. The Joker has always been a loose canon, but he is at his most psychologically vicious and senselessly violent in THE KILLING JOKE. Throughout the story flashbacks gradually reveal bits of his back story. Bolland offers rich, new coloring to the often trippy scenarios in this 20th-anniversary hardback re-release of this classic Batman originally published in 1988. The volume also includes Bolland?s story "An Innocent Guy" as an afterward.

Batman: The Killing Joke The Punch Line is a Killer

Pros: Incredible story and artwork; the best Joker story ever
Cons: Can be too graphically realistic for some people to swallow
The Bottom Line: The Joker transcends insanity and Moore transforms the Clown Prince of Crime into a three-dimensional irredeemable human being. He's just frightening no matter what he does.

Review: The Joker is, perhaps, the Batman s most twisted and insane villain. It s easy to understand the motives of the Penguin, the Riddler, Catwoman, Two-Face and the rest of the lot as they always follow some sort of pattern in their methods towards...

The first time I read this, I was actually sickened.

Pros: Great characterization of Batman and Joker...an examination of their need for each other.
Cons: Graphically (realistically?) violent
The Bottom Line: Not always easy to read because of the content, but life isn't always easy to LIVE because of the content...

Review: I just re-read "The Killing Joke", Alan Moore's seminal work about the struggle between Batman and the Joker, and the suffering on both sides as a result of that struggle. First published in 1988, it was one of a wave of Graphic Novels (AKA higher...

Pros: Dark, gripping, interesting and excellently illustrated
Cons: Might be a little slow for some.
The Bottom Line: One of the most intriguing stories in the Batman library. A must read for anyone interested in the character of The Joker.

Review: With the recent release of this years superb summer blockbuster The Dark Knight I decided it was fast time for me to look back into some of the comics that influenced it. My first stop was The Killing Joke as it is the book quoted by...
