Sounder: not a book about the dog, but it is about a boy

Date of Review:  Jun 30, 2005
The Bottom Line: Encourage your children to read Sounder. It has great messages of life. You may need to read it also to help your children see more than just the story.
Review: My three oldest children had to do a book report with an adult for a summer read. Instead of me reading 3 books, we had our own book club and we all read Sounder by William Armstrong. The book was 110 pages (short) and my 10 year old could read it,...

Moral dilemmas for teens to tackle

Date of Review:  Oct 11, 2003
The Bottom Line: Definitely a book to add to classroom library if not curriculum. Ideal for parent/child discussions on morality, justice, and human potential.
Review: As a secondary school teacher I have read and studied this book with over 60 students. The overall response of 12-14 year olds didn't vary much. The kids either loved it or hated it. Armstrong uses a young black boy's character to tell this story of...
