3Com eXpandable Resilient Networking (XRN) technology offers a pay-as-you-grow strategy that lets enterprise customers simply and cost-effectively scale their Gigabit backbone by combining two 3Com Gigabit multilayer switches in an XRN Phase One Distributed Fabric. An XRN Distributed Fabric is built with the XRN Interconnect Kit and any two switches from the 3Com SuperStack 3 Switch 4900 family or 3Com Switch 4050 and Switch 4060.??XRN technology lets these two switches function as a single device while retaining their switching and software capabilities - without the added complexity of managing two separate core Layer 3 devices. What's more, should a switch in the fabric fail, all management and Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching are automatically restored on the remaining switch.
