The complete first season of the TV series The Boondocks.

Based on the syndicated comic strip of Aaron MacGruder one of only a few African American cartoonists and arguably the most successful this animated show appeared on the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. MacGruder satirizes race relations and contemporary culture in a dry cynical way that pulls no punches and generates a great deal of controversy along the way. The show follows protagonist Huey a 10-year-old revolutionary-in-t raining and Riley his 8-year-old brother and future gangsta. The boys have been moved from their home on Chicago's South Side to the suburban "boondocks" to live with their grandfather where they get into trouble and comment freely upon the idiosyncracies-- to put it mildly--of the white people in whose culture they are now immersed. In season one Huey and Riley debate R. Kelly Huey directs "The Adventures of Black Jesus" for the school Christmas play and Grandad opens up Woodcrest's first soul-food restaurant.

MOVIE DVD - From gun-totting kids to liberal use of the "n"-word, there is plenty of shock value in The Boondocks. This Cartoon Network Adult Swim entry, based on Aaron McGruder's controversial comic strip, is tailor-made for DVD, where its prodigious profanity can go un-bleeped. Readers' fears that McGruder's potent and provocative voice would be dulled in the transition to the small screen, as Richard Pryor was with his short-lived 1977 variety show, are quickly dispelled. Minutes into the first episode, ten-year-old Huey (voiced by Regina King) -- a natural born revolutionary recently transplanted to the suburbs with his eight-year-old brother, Riley (also King), and straight-talking Granddad (John Witherspoon) -- addresses a garden party audience. "I have a brief announcement to make," he proclaims. "Jesus was black, Ronald Reagan was the devil, and the government is lying about 9/11." Yes, it's only a dream, but his granddad knows better. "You better not even dream about telling white people the truth,"
