Barnes and Nobles canceled an order. I place it on Friday & it was canceled by Sun. It was a college book I needed to rent for my daughter. I went on their website after recieving their email and the book was still listed as available for rent.
When I called customer service & asked for an explanation they advise that the website hadn't been updated and didn't offer any alternative. I won't be shopping with them again. I have lost time for a book I needed delivered ASAP for my daughter. Do not rely on them for college books. You will only find yourself in a tough situation of having to start all over again with no time and no resolution on their part. I would rate them a negative "0" if given the option. |

Since my toy order the beginning of December, I have had 3 delays, one cancellation of my order, and spoken to three "management" people who were charming and promised the gifts would be reordered and get there by Christmas. Both items are in the warehouse. No delivery. Even if they get sent, it will be after Christmas and too much aggrivation.

I've ordered from barnes and nobles online stores a few times for gift cards but every single time I get the fastest delivery times and it never fails it takes them at least a week to get it to me. once it took them 3 weeks! So to sum it up on shipping I highly advise to just buy in store shipping is just not even worth it.

I ordered two items on November 15th. I received an email stating that the items were expected to ship the next day. A couple of days later, I got an email stating that the items were delayed and should ship within 1-5 days. A few days later, I got another email stating that the items were further delayed and if I wanted to keep the order active for 30 I needed to go to my order status and indicate that I still wanted the order. I went to my status and clicked to cancel the order. I got another email stating that I couldn't cancel the order because it was in the shipping process or had already been shipped. It still hasn't shipped. I called customer service and someone told me SHE cancelled the order for me. Then I got another email stating, again, that the order could not be cacelled. Basically, I cannot cancel the order, but no one knows where it is, when it will ship, or even IF it will ship. I will NEVER attempt to order from B & N again. This is the most unorganized operation I have ever seen.

I needed textsbooks for my classes. I ordered some through B&N, amazon and through the school.
Amazon came first, then the schools, and 2 days after getting all those, B&N still hasn't shipped. Customer service was rude! They couldn't tell me anything that I didn't already know. When I tried to cancel the books I get emails saying they have shipped, but no tracking info. I think they are blowing smoke. |

I bought my osu textbooks a week before school started, online from the B&N on campus. It took two weeks plus to get them, then when i checked my bank statment they had charged me double. I went in to complain and they assured me it wasn't their fault. so i had my card cancled. Then a week later they called to tell me there was an error on their part and i was charged double. I went in and was refunded my money which by the way was $450+. I was impressed by doug the manager who helped me, but other than that it was a hellish experience. I will never give B&N a cent again, and refused to take gift cards instead of refunding money to my account. Hope they go under and Doug gets a better job somwhere else.

I placed two orders from Barnes and Noble on the same day, to ship to two different locations. On one order I paid for expedited delivery, on the other, standard delivery. The standard delivery seems to have processed ok, but the expedited order never processed. I called the customer service line 4 times. I was put on hold 15 minutes minimum each time. The last call, I tried hard to stick it out and wait. I held on for 42 minutes. No one ever helped me. When I called one more time and selected the option to place a new order, I was connected with someone immediately. They told me that the customer service line to check on my order normally has a 30 minute wait. I told him that I had expedited my order because it was urgent and I begged him to help me. He said the only way I was going to get my order was to drive an hour away to the closest store.

Slow shipping:
I ordered a Nook over 11 days ago and still waiting. It have been tracking the shipping progress from Nevada..... It is painfully slow (using UPS AND USPS!) with days lost in transfers. Not only did they miss the estimated delivery date, but it will take at least 13 days of actual shipping from Nevada to Maryland! I have never seen such slow shipping from any other vendors. Credit card rejected, but not immediately. Again one day lost in ordering. Untrained sales people: I went to the nearest BN store to inquire about the Nook... none was able to explain how to charge it.. a relatively basic question. Finally I got an answer (wrong) that I could not charge it while on vacation in Europe (it can be charged via USB wherever you are in the world). |

The brick and mortar store is a good place to stroll into and take your time looking for books or buy coffee, though anyone who buys movies from their media department is an idiot since prices are often $10 or higher than at your local Best Buy (and box sets are typically much, much higher). CD prices are almost just as bad.
But this complaint is about how they operate their website. Any site that claims they can't cancel your order because the process is too far along (even if it's 15 minutes after you placed your order) yet it takes them a few days before they even ship it out is either lazy or cutthroat, and both come at the buyer's expense. It's not a horrible site by any means, and I will buy from them on occasion of the deal is good (it has to be a combination of their sales price plus a coupon code for an additional discount otherwise it's not worth it), but be absolutely 100% certain your order is complete and something you definitely want -- and are willing to wait a long time to receive -- before you place your order. |

Typical of a lousy site. Put order in. Charge for order. Don't Ship Order. 2 Days later order gets cancelled. OOPs we oversold and are to stupid to count our own inventory.
Charge is still there though. Funny they are too stupid to count there own inventory, but not stupid enough to refund money after they cancel the order. Highly Unrecommend. Waste of Time! |

I ordered a HP TouchPad when they were being cleared out. The website ordering system let me complete my order and pay. A few hours later I received an email telling me that the HP TouchPad was out of stock. I sent an email asking why the order was completed even though they had none in stock, I have not received a response yet. Inventory/ordering systems should not allow a purchase to take place if they do not have the item in stock. The WORST experience, stay away from B&N clearance sales!!!

This was my first purchase from barnes and noble.com. This was for a HP touchpad which was selling for extremely low price. I placed the order only to know after two days that my order was canceled due to overwhelming number of orders they received. Such a big site and they can't sell based on the inventory they have??? I was surprised. I could have purchased it from other websites if I had known this before, but all sites were sold out by the time I knew about my order. So this was definitely not a good experience for me.

I am pretty unimpressed with B&N. I placed an order from them on Sunday, and immediately received an order confirmation and a charge to my credit card. Then on Monday I logged in to check the shipping status and it said the order could not be processed, and to call. Well, I probably called them 10 times and got immediately disconnected because they were experiencing high call volume.
Later in the day I got a notice saying that my order was canceled. I called in at 5pm, and it said that they were closed for the day... and that their hours at 8:30am to 11pm. Nice! They all went home early. Very poor communication! |

I signed up for the Barns and Noble membership solely because of the free express shipping. At first, they actually did send my orders express, but now they still claim to send express (1-3 days, this is advertised when you check out "express 1-3 days") but every order from them takes a week (no exaggeration, a full week) to get to me. That is after it is shipped- not after ordering.
It's false advertisement and it's because of this that I rarely order from them anymore and when my membership is up in a few months I will not renew or give them any more business. |

Barnes and Noble has the worst business practices. Their member program is a complete scam. They refuse to honor free shipping for many items despite paying for the membership which supposedly provides free shipping. When their scam is exposed they refuse to cancel the order. The only option is to contest the order with the credit card company. Avoid this company at all costs.

Asked for price for game to be refunded. said she would ask manager. put me on hold for about 5 minutes. came back and said no. asked to speak to manager directly. put me on hold for 10 minutes. spoke to ryan. he apologized and said they would improve customer service. i asked what guarantee did i have and that i should be compensated for my almost 1 hour wasted time for horrible customer service. he said no. i tried to discuss. he would not budge. i am so disappointed. such bad service. I've ordered twice online from them. Beware! You are given an estimated ship date, sent an e-mail telling you that your order is being prepared for shipment, and then after a few days you get an e-mail that your order is delayed for 1-5 days. After 60 days with my first order, I cancelled it. I gave them a second chance and now this order is also delayed. The same thing has happened to my friend's orders. Apparantly this is standard practice for B&N. I've never had this experience with any other company. B&N just makes Amazon look better. Pathetic. B&N need to improve their inventory tracking for customers and get orders to people in a timely matter. Simple customer service stuff anybody should expect. |

I have waited over a week to have my issue resolved with customer service and all I receive in response is a generic email with no answers. When I went to put a book in my cart, it had a note that it "Usually ships within 24 hours". I then selected express shipping. When I received my confirmation email, it stated that my order was complete and ready to ship in THREE WEEKS. I paid more to buy it from B&N because I wanted to have it in time for Valentine's day. I am appalled that I was never given any notice prior to purchase that it would take a month almost to receive my item and now I can get no reply from customer service. I will never use their online store again. They really should be ashamed of their current level of customer service.

The slowest delivery ever via DHL. The tracking system works periodically. I have waited almost two weeks for the delivery of two paperback travel books. Had they used regular mail, it would have been 3 days. Tried to call B&N customer service and no one picked up after 20 minutes. Not satisfied at all.

I am absolutely furious with the customer service that I received from barnes and noble when trying to get a refund for a New Yorker subscription that has never ONCE downloaded onto my NOOK Color.
I tried emailing customer service TWICE and was ignored both times. Then, I was forced to sit on the phone for AN HOUR to only get $1.79 of the $6 I was charged for a magazine that I still do not have access to. It's $6. This should be simple, easy, and fast. When I was referred to the tech department, whom I was told would be able to refund the rest of the subscription fee and help me figure out what was going on, I was put on hold again by the second customer service attendant. He spent a good 10 minutes verifying that the subscription had in fact been canceled, but couldn't help me with my refund, which was my only request. I was put on hold for ANOTHER 20 minutes while he tried to escalate it through his managers....until the phone gave me the busy tone and disconnected!!! I am so disappointed in what I thought was a good company. |

I ordered from Barnes and Nobles and it's been 3 weeks and my books STILL haven't arrived! Last time I ordered from them it too about 6 weeks for my order to arrive. I thought it was a fluke. I will NEVER order on line from them again. In fact, I predict this will be their downfall and they will go out of business! No business can function with THAT time of delivery timeframe. I am outraged in how I was treated. Horrible customer service. I purchased a book online that I needed right away for my studies and I was told that the book would be shipped within 24 hours when I ordered the book. 3 days later, the book was still not shipped. When I checked the status of my order online, it said that it would be shipped on that Fri. On Sat, 4 days later from when I originally purchased the book, the book was still not shipped. I then called the customer care center and was on hold for 15 min. before I got through. Once I got through, the customer care rep was extremely rude to me and then hung up on me. I recommend never ordering a book from here if you are in need of it right away. I have never been treated so poorly by a customer care rep.
