I used to order from these folks quite a bit. Lately they are having some serious problems. I placed an order with a coupon that they kept "backordering" until 8 months went by and then they simply cancelled it. The same item was still listed in their catalogs the whole time. When I called they said they could not get the product. When I asked them why they still listed it on sale, they had no answer. I think they did not want to sell it to me with the coupon so they kept pushing it back. I guess the deal I got from them really was too good to be true. They have lost my respect and business.

Order? What order? I ordered a jacket from Sportsman"s guide in August. It was listed as "In Stock." I received a backorder notice only after I got frustrated with no delivery after 3-4 weeks. Then, I was told it would ship in September. Nothing. I contacted Customer Service repeatedly and was told it would ship "soon." After three go-rounds I even asked the rep if I should give up. No help. I fell for it again when they said it would ship in October. Nothing again. Finally, they told me late November they weren't going to get any more jackets like this in stock. Did I mention they managed to deliver three catalogues successfully in the meantime? Did I mention that jacket is listed as "in stock" in all of them? Still is in their wesite, too. They are awful!

SCAM! They get you to sign up for the club for $30. It sounds like a good deal because you get an immediate discount, but THEN they restrict your purchase so that the only thing you can buy is the $30 club membership. The customer service lady laughed at me and said that they restricted the shipment so that they could collect $30 for doing nothing! I am calling my bank as I write this.

Beware they never sent me the $10.00 off coupons with no minimum purchase that they promised when I agreed to become a buyers club member. They think they are smarter then the consumer and try to trick you by sending $$ off coupons with minimum purchase amounts that are available to all consumers not just buyers club members. When I canceled it they did not refund my money like they also promise. What a joke, try Cabelas they will bend over backwards for you. Even Gander is much better. Oh yeah if you go to their store you can not use your buyers club discount. What a deal

Odered a pair of waders on September 16th, and was promised a 4 to 7 day delivery. After two weeks I hadn't recieved anything, or any notice, so I called them. I was told that the item was on backorder and would ship the next day. Waited another week or so, and still no response so I called again. After being transferred three times I was finally told that my address didn't match the credit card so the order was not filled. They charged my card alright, but just wouldn't send the merchandise. The attendant said they called me and sent email, but it's amazing how I didn't recieve either. After a very short discussion with this very short customer service attendant I asked for my money back. I won't ever shop here again, and I don't recommend you do either. Their main priority seems to be getting your money into their account. Anything beyond that doesn't much matter.

Dishonest practices

This company has an interesting practice. When they receive the order, they quickly send the shipping information to the shipper, but then they don't ship right away. In fact in my case, they took 5 days to actually ship the product. I was so impressed when I got a tracking number the day after I ordered the product. But 5 days later it finally showed up as having been picked up by UPS.
To add insult to injury, their customer service department claimed it was a tracking issue with UPS and that the package was enroute even though it wasn't showing up in the tracking info. This was a total lie. All I'm saying is, don't expect anything fast and don't expect honesty from the CS department. |

Generally a good experience.
HOWEVER - be aware that SG has very poor size classifications for their clothing - ESPECIALLY foreign clothing. "Mediums" are SMALL, "Larges" are MEDIUM. And they will demand that YOU pay return shipping on anything under $15. |

Sportsman's Guide shipped all of my items the day they received my payment! Delivery was a bit slow since they use UPS Ground. My orders were always accurately filled. They used large boxes, perhaps larger than necessary, but packing materials filled the voids and protected the items. The customer service department is diligent. One or my orders was to be shipped to an address other than my billing address, and customer service staff called me to confirm. Overall I'm very pleased with Sportsman's Guide. Update -- I also purchase from Bargain Outfitters, which appears to be a mirror site at the same location, selling the same or similar items. I'm as satisfied with Bargain Outfitters as I am with Sportsman's Guide. I highly recommend both of them.

I have been a customer of Sportsman Guide for a few years now, and have ALWAYS received exactly what I ordered. It has always arrived in excellent condition, and usually sooner than expected.I have only had to return one item,and that was for size, and my refund was received promptly. I bought a pair of Hi-Tec Sierra hiking boots after checking several outlets for price. Sportsman's Guide was the least expensive, by far. The boots arrived quickly and were exactly as advertised. I will definitely shop there in the future. The prices are right and the service was outstanding.

They should call it; The Outdoorsman's Guide. If it's got anything to do with the out of doors, this catalog covers it.
I've found prices on Tents, Sleeping Bags and Sleeping Mats, and Lanterns to be EXCEPTIONAL. If there was a wrinkle, Customer Service took care of me IMMEDIATELY. In fact, in my last order a piece came thru broken. I called Customer Service, figuring they would want me to ship the whole mess back. WELL- with a, "Can you hold please", I was told replacement part would be sent out immediately. You just can't get any better than the Guide. Has been acceptable in the past, but this time ended offer earlier than stated which cost me $25, would NOT do anything to rectify. Also, charged more to my card than the order total was... apparently they offer shipping credit for lightweight items, and figure it into the total you see on screen and on the email receipt, but charge your card as if you didn't get the credit. WARNING: Sportsman's Guide is obviously NOT trustworthy. I ordered a pair of boots and paid $33 dollars to have them overnighted. The overnight shipping a quarter the price of the boots!! Even though I gave them my correct address, they sent the boots to the wrong place. I called customer service and the rep straight out LIED saying that I didn't enter my address or that the computer didn't pick it up. I have my emailed reciept as PROOF that I did send my correct address. I am sending them an email right now and calling them again to demand that my shipping cost be refunded in full. Will keep you posted....

You are in Canada? Don't bother with Sportsman's Guide. Shipping costs are too steep for me!
After placing an order, proceeding thru their checkout,and paying their requested shipping charges, including the $10.00 surcharge they asked for because of Canadian delivery, I received an email confirming my order. The next day I received another email demanding an additional amount of $33.00. This additional charge, they said, was for a "high value" order, and because it was to be shipped to Canada. They were aware of the value of the item,(less than $200.00) and the shipping location at their checkout, but failed to mention these "Canadian Shipping" costs at checkout time. Once checkout was completed where I gave my charge card details, and I have an order acknowledgment in my email, I thought we had struck a deal. Not so! They did not agree, and would not budge on my complaints. They canceled the order when I would not authorize further funds. |

I've been shopping thru their catalog and online for years. Their products are top notch, especially their Guide Gear brand, and their customer service is excellent, always friendly and ready to help. In one instance, a pair of overalls I had just received teared while I was wearing them. I called and they sent a replacement pair that day and told me to keep the ripped pair.
