Don't Bank on Jos. A. Bank Clothiers

Beware sales practices at Jos. A. Bank Clothiers. I tried to purchase Black Friday items on the web. Great prices! When it came to Proceed to Checkout, Whammo! It took me back to the start page. I tried various hours of the day and night. Always the same. Items were in cart, but no checkout possible. I then phoned. Got an operator quite fast. She couldn't help. You are from Canada and must purchase online. Right after the sale ended I logged on and was taken to the Checkout with the original items still in the cart. The catch was the total bill increased by $100.00. Something devious here. Buyer beware. Canadians beware. Jos. A. Bank Clothiers please clean up the act.

Nice clothes in general, but pima cotton sweaters are awful!

I have been buying from the Jos Bank web site for years.  In the last couple of years, my only complaint is the quality of the thin signature collection pima cotton sweaters.  These sweaters fall apart after a couple of uses, and I mean fall apart.  The tags fall off, holes open at the seams, etc.  Even with the sale price, the quality is not acceptable to me, just awful.  They really need some sort of quality control on these.  Other items like polo shirts and slacks have been decent quality.

Terrible

I was greatly disappointed when I had to order a suit for my daughters wedding. In an effort to keep costs under control, my daughter decided to have the groomsmen and fathers wear the same style of suits.  I was measured and ordered mine from the Westwood, NJ store.  When I finally received it, I brought it to the dry cleaners to have it cleaned before the wedding.  It was then that I found papers in the pocket from a wedding in Louisiana the previous year. I realized then that someone had purchased the suit; used it for a wedding and returned it. 

Knowing that they had sold me a used suit as new (without ever cleaning it), I returned to the store in Westwood and asked the manager about this. He assured me they never sell used suits, despite showing him what was found in the pockets when I took it to the dry cleaners.

They offered nothing and I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.  I received one call from a regional manager; returned his call but not reaching him and have since left three messages without any response.

Iwould not recommend them.  Losers

Disappointing

I ordered a Signature Gold suit from Jos. A Bank Online. The suit seemed to fit, and had a nice fabric. Later I discovered that the suit is not as pictured. The photos show buttons with working buttonholes. Actually, the sleeve do not have buttons on them!!! You have to find a tailor to sew them on, with or without buttonholes. Very disappointing to be deceived this way! An email to customer service gained me a response along the lines of " Please be advised, the buttons are not added to the sleeves to allow for working buttonholes.  If you wish to have the buttons applied to the Suit and not have working buttonholes, the Suit may be taken to any of our retail locations and the buttons may be applied at no charge for you." In other words, "Please be advised, you got duped by believing we intended to send you a finished jacket like the one in the photos. Now you must drive to a city with one of our stores, or you're required to pay a tailor to make the jacket wearable."

DON'T SHOP HERE - HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

I have been shopping online with JAB for a couple of years and typically have been pleased with my purchases. Until my last experience, which BTW will be the last time I order from JAB. I purchased a shirt that was on sale at a great price. Since I was paying for shipping I decided to buy a couple of turtle necks as well (next season). I received an email a couple of days later stating the shirt was no longer in stock and the turtle necks were on their way. The whole point of the order was to get the shirt! I called customer service immediately to cancel the entire order. JAB requested UPS to return the shipment, which was successful. Here comes the horrible customer service. I have since been removed from the daily email from JAB. It has been two weeks since I canceled and I still have not received the refund. On top of that I received an email today and I am being charged a shipping fee! I have learned my lesson and hopefully you can benefit from my experience before you buy.

What happened to customer service? I had a problem ordering online (expected discount not applied), so I called to place the order. Sounded like the CSR was having a bad day: surly, rude, one word questions, just not helpful at all. I hung up. I'm from the UK, so I know about bad customer service (!), this is the worst I have experienced in 10 years in the US. Very disappointing, I will take my business elsewhere.

Stupid pricing strategy, slow shipping.

This retailer makes me crazy. ALL of their prices are overinflated by a huge amount, then they offer stupid prices on a regular basis. "Buy 1 get 2 free!". Really? Why can't they just offer a decent price every day? I refuse to buy anything from them because I know if I wait a few weeks I can get it at LEAST half price. Why do they insist on wasting my time? The quality is fine for the most part, and I do like the fit of their pants. It's just too much trouble to buy from them. ARE YOU LISTENING JOS A. BANK? It's a PITA to do business with you!

My most recent order was for polo shirts that were regularly priced $59.50. I got them for $12.97!! It was a one day special, but even now the shirts are 'half price'. Big surprise. It took them 6 days to ship them, and it will be 2 weeks before the shirts arrive. Nobody takes that long to get something out the door.

Beware they will ware you out.

I purchased a pair of wool/cashmere slacks on Jos A Bank.com in Nov. of 2011 and paid the extra to have them hemmed. I followed the on-line instructions and measured a favorite pair of pants to get the correct out-seam measurement. When the pants arrived my wife said "you got your high water pants on?' the pants were an inch to short so I sent them back with a note telling JAB the correct length. Two weeks later the new pair arrived and guess what...yup  an inch short again. I called customer service and was told "sorry ".  Ok I sent the pants back and two days after shipping them I got another pair. This pair looked like pants that had been hanging on a sales rack at some discount store...I called customer service again "sorry" send them back. Well eventually I did receive a call from JAB cust. serv. they couldn't find anything wrong with the pants but would send them back and pay the dry cleaning bill if I wanted to take them to my dry cleaners. By this time I was so frustrated with JAB I just said keep the pants.

I have placed an order online for items that were all listed as in stock, and it took 4 DAYS to process the order for shipment. I attempted to contact customer service, which has a busy signal for nearly an hour, and when it finally did ring, I was asked to leave a message after waiting on hold for 5 minutes. 

Bottom line is this: 3-5 day shipping really means 7-10 day arrival. BUYER BEWARE!!!

Poor, will only shop in store

Order was placed on Sunday evening. I called them in tuesday (as I had not yet received any tracking info) and they transferred me 3 times (without giving me a reason) to their "verification" dept. apparently, there was an issue with the billing address that I had originally submitted. I was never notified  by them that there was an issue and that is my point of contention with them as my order was delivered late as a direct result of their ineptitudes. Their product is awesome, their service sucks.

The price was great.  They are always running sales.  However, their logistics are terrible.  They were running a buy one get two free sale with free shipping for orders over $195.  I bought six items but the website wouldn't let me select the buy one pair of pants get two free, buy one pair of stocks get two free.  I had to call in to get the price changed.  Also, an item which was listed as available online was actually on back order for 3 months.  It is no wonder that their tux operation is a mess.  Their computer systems must ancient.

Found cheaply made shirts and sweaters at a premium price.

Should have went with my first impression. My son and I went in after playing golf, we were dressed casual in nice shorts and golf shirts. The first words out of a salesman mouth were "sir we do not have a public restroom". When I said I was shopping, he directed me directly to a sales discount table. I have bought 6 sweaters and 2 JOS A BANK brand golf shirts that fell apart. The stitching where the sleeves connect to the body came undone. I followed the washing instructions perfectly. 60 to 90 dollar articles of clothing should last more then 4 or 5 wearings.

HORRIBLE on-line retailer; Worst on-line shopping experience EVER!  They will always show things you want to order as "in stock" but they rarely are.  You will then go several days without hearing a single word about your supposedly "in stock" items being shipped.  When you email their customer service, they will IGNORE you.  When you call it takes some doing but you can finally talk to a human (who sounds a lot like that "Peggy person" on the DiscoverCard commercials) who will inform you that the bulk of your order has been backordered.  Still will not give you any shipping info regarding the items that are supposedly in-stock; really awful and frustrating on-line shopping experience.  Several days out from order date and STILL have NO word on if/when even a portion of it will ever ship. Awful, awful, awful on-line retailer.

Worst online shopping experience ever.

I order a suit listed as being in stock.  After paying for the item it was still listed as "in stock" in my order summary.  A short time later I received an email indicating the suit was not in stock and was expected to ship in 2 weeks.  After 2 1/2 weeks I checked my order and found the item would not be ready for shipment for another 2 weeks.  The only thing positive about the experience was the order cancellation

They are fine if everything goes right. But if it doesn't be careful. I placed an order and they left out one item. I have sent emails that are unanswered and have tried in vain to reach customer service. The number disconnects after two minutes on hold or is always busy.
I have now resorted to Better Business Bureau and the Maryland Attorney General's consumer complaints office.

Sneaky Sales tactics, Very poor customer service ~ Avoid

Sneaky sales tactics. Poor customer service. They were having a three day sale and I had 6 sweaters in my cart and when I got to checkout they were out of stock. I called to inquire as to why they had been "in-stock and reserved" one minute and the next out of stock, I received some lame excuse from the customer service representative. Disappointed, I never had a chance to order the sweaters and missed out on a great deal, I ordered some similar ones from another company. Upon looking on the Jos A Banks Site, the next day LO and BEHOLD ...there were the sweaters back in stock!! But here is the kicker...back to the higher price!!!! Angered, I called the customer service line (which by the way sounded more like someone sitting in their house answering a phone, rather than a center). Once again I received a lame excuse and basically called an idiot, and told that no, I could not have them at the previous day's price. I will never shop from this site again.

Poor quality salespeople and mediocre quality clothes

I recently walked into the JB store in Pasadena, CA on Lake Ave. (an upscale shopping venue). My experience was less than satisfactory. For one thing, the sales people (2) simply stood in the back for about 5 minutes before stopping their conversation to assist me. It wasn't because they were very busy either, as there were only 2 customers in the entire shop (an elderly couple and me). Then when I dared ask about the sale items, the male salesperson in an exasperated tone, slammed his hands on the clothes that were on sale and jabbed his finger at the regular price items. I complained and he immediately threw the sales manager's card at me and told me to complain if I so desired. Some experience.

exceptionally poor experience

Whole experience was negative. Bought a corduroy sport coat on line. 2nd day delivery was standard and on arrival noticed the coat was missing both sleeve buttons. The sleeve seams were open due to no buttons. Called customer service and told them to check their website which shows 4 buttons on each sleeve of their sport coat. The rep wanted to send buttons for me to have sewn on, which I declined. I returned this coat at my expense and the customer service rep ordered another coat and supposedly specified to check the replacement had sleeve buttons as advertised. The new coat came 9 days later via UPS ground instead of 2nd day. This coat was also missing both sleeve buttons, which I again returned. I sent 4 e-mails to Jos. A. Bank and 3 weren't answered. The last e-mail asked to refund shipping costs of the defective coats which they finally replied by refusing the refund. I won't order from Jos. A. Banks again due to poor service and merchandise which is not as advertised. The measure of a good company is not when things go well but when there is a problem, and Jos. A. Banks failed.

Recently, I entered the store in New Canaan, CT and was treated with such disrespect. I found the salesmen, in general, very condescending. I went in to find a dress shirt for my son. He is a size men's medium in polo's. They talked down to me when trying (and I mean trying) to explain the sizing of their apparel. By the looks of them and the sound of their statements, you needed to be forty pounds overweight to buy something there. Then they told me to go to another store down the street. That's always good for business!

I have talked to many people in town and no one shops there. And by the way, I was the only one in the store. I would never buy anything from this retailer.

Impossible to reach customer service

IMPOSSIBLE to reach customer service. I made an order online. the status has remained at "in stock and reserved" for over a week now while on the same page they boast that items in stock will be shipped within 24 hours. my credit card has not been charged yet either. i only want to know what is going on but it is absolutely impossible to reach customer service by phone or email.
this is a terribly frustrating shop and i will never ever even look at their website again.

Very uncomfortable experience with their local store

The on-line shopping is convenient. However the suit shipped to me is far below my expectation. The signature gold 120s suit looks like a used one and may be only worth $150. After having the pants altered and suits steamed at their local store, it's still doesn't look satisfying.

When I tried to return at the local store, I was told they won't let me do that because it wasn't purchased in their store. How ridiculous!! I know their policy is that if you purchase on-line you can return at any retail store. After arguing for several minutes, the guy finally agreed. However, he refused to return the alteration fee. He said the alteration had been done. I thought this was acceptable (although afterwards I was told by the 1-800--- customer service that the alteration fee should also be returned). He was not friendly at all. How can they have this kind of employee?

I will never buy anything from them, at least not from their local store at Auburn, AL.
