I'm a system administrator I know my hardware and what is or isn't a good deal so I had always had good experiences at the old Onsale site. I would watch many products pass me by as others would bid them up way over their true value but did pick up some good deals at times. My general comments about Egghead are from an experience dating back over a year ago.

After Egghead bought out Onsale I noticed a few changes I didn't like but continued to purchase a few items. Everything went OK till I purchased a DVD kit through them. The kit description described the included decoder card as a Hollywood Plus card I got the package at a decent price. When the package arrived and I had the hardware installed I discovered the card was not a Plus compatible but a cheaper full screen only card. I sent a message to Egghead requesting a replacement card as described in the original advertisement. They claimed I had to deal directly with the vendor Utobia Computers and provided me with contact information. Utobia never responded within the 30 day return deadline. I had made several request to Egghead for assistance when I was experiencing the no reply from Utobia. Eventually after the hardware had been my system for 2-3 months Utobia finally said they would take the package back minus a restocking fee, unacceptable since the original description did not match the shipped product.

At one point 4-6 months after the sale I tried to remotely file a complaint with the BBB where Utobia was located. Utobia claimed they had never done business with me. Despite repeated complaints to Egghead they continued to sell products for Utobia often as featured products.

I finally gave up ate the cost of replacement decoder card from another vendor and will never do business with Egghead or Utobia again.
