I purchased two $30 memory cards at eCost.com on 5/21/08 using Paypal, and the next day I get an email from eCost asking me to call in and confirm the order or it will be cancelled. So I called immediately, and surprise surprise it was a call center based in Pakistan or thereabouts. The person kept asking me to provide a telephone number associated with my credit card, no matter how many times I told him that I used Paypal (using my existing balance).
He said that I had to provide the phone number associated with my credit card. So I gave him my numbers, and he said that they had to be landlines. Who uses landlines anymore??? I have two cell phones, both registered to my name. So the guy says OK we'll process the number(s) and email you an update.
So Friday 5/23 comes around, no email. I call them again, and the guy says everything looks OK, we'll email you an update by the end of the day. Still no email. Finally on Wednesday 5/28, I get an email that they cancelled my order because of, get this: "NR - Customer did not respond"!!!!
OH MY GOD, THESE PEOPLE ARE IDIOTS! I needed these memory cards for my new camcorder, which by the way I bought at BeachCamera also using Paypal. BeachCamera also called to confirm a number, which I did, and I got the camera the very next day, and that order cost ten times as much as at eCost. I will never ever EVER buy ANYTHING EVER again at eCost.com. Not only do they charge hidden handling fees, but their customer support is ineffective and incompetent.
