Bad shipping options, terrible follow up

I ordered an external hard drive on eCost.com, which shipped 1/18 and arrived in my town 1/22 (holiday weekend). They did not inform me that the shipper would be DHL, nor did they give me the option to approve or waive an in-person signature-required delivery. DHL ONLY delivers between 8-5. Their store for pickup is also only open 8-5, M-F. They will not accept a signature on the slip on the door. They will not reroute to an alternate address (like UPS will). They do not have after 5 hours on weekdays or any on weekends. Therefore, DHL cannot get my package to me. They can't leave it on my porch and I can't pick it up. I have to take off work in order to get a package. Why is this eCost's problem? They did not advise me they were using a horrible shipper. They did not advise me of the major shipping obstacles that will keep my package from me. They did not give me the opportunity to waive the signature requirement. My package has been in town 6 days, inaccessible, and eCost says "well if it comes back, they don't always come back, we can put in a claim." They told me to call the shipper to reship it. DHL brings it to my door every day even after being told no one will be there, even after telling me they WOULD accept a signature, and leaves a slip saying "you must pick up." eCost does not care that they have a crappy shipper and probably if and when I get it, it will also be broken from all the handling.
