My husband and I decided to elope in Hawaii, as we wanted to get married the easiest (and least stressful) way possible.
With making arrangements for the wedding, ring shopping fell by the wayside. Three weeks before we were to leave, we realized we still needed our wedding bands! I knew it was probably too late to get a wedding band for me (I wanted something to match my engagement ring, so I'd have to get it custom designed once we got back from Hawaii). But we thought getting a simple white gold wedding band for my husband would be easy.
Right?
We went to numerous stores in the local mall, looking at wedding bands for him. He finally found one that he liked at Zales- it was the right width and the salesgirl said they could get it sized for him and have it back within two weeks. Not knowing any better, we gave her our information for an order, handed over a credit card, and she said they'd give us a call as soon as the ring was in- in about two weeks.
Two weeks came and went. Our wedding day was drawing near. My husband called Zales to ask about his ring, and they told him they had NO information on his order! According to them, it hadn't even been placed.
Funny, considering they had already charged his credit card.
My husband informed them of this. They then passed him off to various company representatives, all who promised to "get to the bottom" of our situation and call us back.
No one called us back. This happened numerous times.
We came to the realization that we wouldn't have a proper wedding band for our wedding ceremony, which was really heart breaking. My husband had another band he decided to use instead, which would suffice for the ceremony- but it would by no means do well as a wedding band. Yes, we had procrastinated on getting a wedding band- but why did Zales promise a ring for us in two weeks if they couldn't do it?!
So we went to Hawaii and got married. We came back home, thinking for sure the wedding band would be in. We called, and again got passed around to different people in the company, all who claimed they had no idea what was going on. Where was our wedding band?!!
Several weeks passed, and we finally heard back from them. The ring was in! Mind you, this was last week- almost eight weeks since we've been married.
We rushed to the store and handed our receipt to a sales associate. He rummaged around in a drawer, and ta da! He produced the wedding band and handed it to my husband.
In yellow gold.
We had ordered it in white gold. WHITE GOLD. NOT YELLOW GOLD.
My husband said to the sales associate, "That's not what I ordered."
"YES IT IS" the sales associate said. He snatched the ring away from my husband and held our receipt up to the receipt on the order. "Oh. Wait," he said, realizing that we HAD ordered white gold and SOMEONE really screwed up, "Bro, you're going to have to talk to the manager. Here, let me take down your phone number and they'll call you tomorrow..."
Now. I myself work customer service. I'm a manager. I know the correct way of handling things- and nothing Zales has done has been correct. We have received no explanation as to why our order has been so screwed up. We have received no offer of compensation for our troubles.
Surprisingly, a manager DID call us the next day and told us they'd reorder the ring in white gold. It'd be in in another 6 to 8 weeks.
All of this over a simple white gold men's wedding band. We will receive the band almost four months after when they originally guaranteed it.
We're working on cancelling the order and ordering it from somewhere else- somewhere who DESERVES our money. Zales has done nothing but provide awful customer service. I am beyond disgusted.
I'm warning as many people as I can- you pay for what you get! Zales is a cheap place with cheap customer service. STAY AWAY!!
