Ever since my husband Bill and I moved to Germany, I've been doing a lot of clothes shopping online. Yes, Germany does have clothing stores, but I prefer American style and sized clothes. Consequently, I tend to get a lot of catalogs in my mailbox from places like L.L. Bean, Eddie Bauer, and Talbots. A couple of weeks ago, I got someone's
Woolrich catalog by mistake. Being a curious sort, I started flipping through it and immediately noticed something I knew my husband could use... new pajamas!
For the longest time, Bill's bedtime attire has been a t-shirt and a very funky looking pair of baggy flannel pants decorated with palm trees. For some reason, flannel and palm trees just seems like a contradiction to me. Anyway, he recently commented that he was ready to ditch the pants, which was definitely music to my ears. And as I was flipping through the copy of the Woolrich catalog that landed in my mailbox, I found the perfect replacement. There, in a variety of print and plaid colors, were men's pajamas in the style that Bill likes, with flannel pants and a nice jersey shirt. While the printed varieties reminded me a little of the palm printed pants I was hoping to replace, the plaids were just what I was looking for. I selected deep navy in large, remembering that Bill likes his clothes kind of roomy. The set was priced at $35.
Of course, as long as I was shopping, I figured I'd see if there was anything in the catalog that I wanted as well. I have long been a fan of hoodies, but my wardrobe has been without them for awhile. Then I spotted a simple hoodie sweater on Woolrich.com, made of merino wool, available in several colors, machine washable, and priced at about $79. Of course, I put one in my virtual cart.
What else does Woolrich.com sell? I was tempted by some very nice looking wool blankets, throws, and travel accessories. A few years ago, I bought a down blanket at Target that was made by Woolrich. The blanket was very well made and warm. Woolrich also sells accessories, like slippers, purses, and belts. I would say the store's merchandise is somewhat like L.L. Bean's, with an emphasis on comfortable, outdoorsy clothes.
Prices versus quality Woolrich.com's prices are moderate. The clothes I purchased were priced on par with retailers such as Eddie Bauer and L.L. Bean; however, when I received our order the other day, I was
very impressed by the quality of the items. I wore my new hoodie yesterday and was pleased with the way it fit, as well as its warmth. I also appreciated the fact that it isn't itchy, even though it's made of wool. Ever better, my new hoodie is even machine washable in cold water. I did notice, however, that my sweater was made in China.
Bill loves his new pajamas, though I overestimated the size a bit. The large was not only very roomy, but too long for Bill's arms and legs. Woolrich.com has a 100% satisfaction guarantee, so we can exchange or return the pajamas. But when I suggested that we exchange the pajamas for mediums, Bill said he wanted to keep them. In fact, he even said he might consider buying another set in medium. Even though the new pajamas are a little too big, Bill and I were both impressed with how they look and feel.
Shipping and tax For orders up to $25, Woolrich.com charges $5.95 for shipping. For orders over $250.01, Woolrich.com charges $17.95 for shipping. Those are the two extremes for regular shipping. My order cost $13.95 to ship. Woolrich.com does not charge additional shipping for items that need to be exchanged.
Woolrich.com charges sales tax on items that are shipped to states where Woolrich has a physical presence. Since I live in Germany and have an APO address, I did not have to pay sales tax.
Acceptable payment methods Woolrich.com accepts personal checks, money orders, and all major credit cards.
Would I shop there again? Absolutely. Bill and I are very happy with our purchases. I wish the shipping charges were a little less, but I like the quality of Woolrich.com's products, the 100% guarantee, and the fact that Woolrich.com offers custom pant hemming at no extra charge on certain men's pants. Better yet, we can finally get rid of the flannel palm trees!
