Poor order handling, poor customer service responsiveness, altogether disappointing.

I ordered a Daphne online from Wayside Gardens on June 8, expecting it to arrive for my mother's birthday on June 19. On the 18th I learned from Wayside's Ship Status page that it had not yet shipped. I emailed them requesting a resolution and still had not heard back from them by the next afternoon.
I then phoned on the 19th, and was told that plants were back-ordered until Fall 2006. Wayside's policy is to charge your credit card for the product at the time of order, not at the time of fulfillment. They apparently have no policy about telling their customers that something is backordered and won't be available for 4 months.
It is unethical to keep the customer's money for something you can't deliver until months later-- it's not as if it's a custom product. The web site STILL wasn't updated to indicate "out of stock" as of June 19th. I told them to cancel the order. They made no effort to "make it right" and have left me empty-handed for my Mom's birthday. I cannot recommend anyone depend on this company to communicate or to deliver what you pay for in a reasonable amount of time.
My mother was a regular customer but this should cure her.
