I'm always on the lookout for quality at bargain prices. I can't remember how I happened upon Vitacost.com, perhaps when shopping around for vitamins from stores that participated in Igive.com. I've ordered from Puritan's Pride online but for whatever reason was wooed to Vitacost.com and haven't looked back.
Their website is pretty user friendly. The home page includes a search feature (by keyword OR item number), featured products, recommended buys, new arrivals, quick links to frequently used pages, a signup for free health newsletters (and links to their archive), doctor's corner and even a vitamin adviser which takes information you put in about your health and body and comes up with product recommendations.
The biggest draw to Vitacost.com is definitely the prices on brand name products. The brands are varied and too many to list but include: Airborne, Good Earth, Kiss My Face, Back Flower Remedies, Schiff, Zicam, Yerba Prima, Tom's of Maine and many many more! The next biggest draw is the variety of products; they don't just offer vitamins but also bath & beauty selections, coffees and teas, nutritional meal replacement bars and even sexual well-being products. It's pretty amazing what products they offer. The final biggest draw is their shipping rate. They have one flat fee (currently $4.99) they charge regardless of how many bottles you buy or how much money you spend, so long as the shipment is going to a Continental US state, additional charges apply to non-Continental states and international destinations.
There are other highlights they offer that I don't take advantage of like automatic shipments you can set up to have your favorite items replaced with a schedule which can save you having to remember to re-order before you run out. And if you can't remember what kind of, say, multi-vitamin it was you had ordered that you really liked you can sign on to your account and check your history which goes back, in my case, to 2005 when I first started using the site. This is also handy when you're trying to see how much of say, powdered fiber you take and how much you should order for any given time period.
Order filling and shipping is usually very quick and efficient. I don't think I've waited longer than a week for my product to arrive on my front porch. Only once in all these years have I ever had anything arrive in a broken container. It happened to be fiber powder which was a mess to clean up. Thing is, the product was soooo affordably priced, I didn't even feel the need to call for a replacement.
As an example of the savings you can see, the last order I received contained:
Yerba Prima Colon Care powder, 12 oz for $6.19
Rainbow Light Just Once Multivitamin, 120 tablets for $17.28
Neutraceutical Sciences Institute Acetyl L-Carnitine HCl - 500 mg - 60 Capsules for $8.99
Now had I gone to my local health food store, it would have cost me: $9.95 for the Yerba Prima, $42.92 for the Rainbow Light and for the last product? They don't carry the NSI brand at my health food store but the brand they DO carry has 50 capsules of the stuff for $21.99.
As you can see, the savings DO add up, quickly. If you take a lot of vitamins or supplements or even want to save on things like toothpaste and natural deodorant then Vitacost.com is the online store for YOU! Check out is fast, safe and secure.
A final feature I'll highlight here that's different from other online supplement stores is their Vitamin Adviser. Plug in your gender, age, height and weight and check off any health concerns and medication you're taking and they'll come up with an instant summary of supplements that can help you WITH an explanation of how and why they were recommended.
