I placed an order for a replacement screen for my Palm Zire 31 PDA after I blotched the original screen by accidentally sitting on it. After a half hour of web searching, it turned out that Unity Electronics was the only online store selling the replacement part.
The charged me $40 for the screen; I was OK with that, since the PalmOne manufacturer repair charge would have cost almost as much as the original PDA (about $150 )and no one else was selling that part. But the shipping charge of UnityElectronics - $8.54 for a 1 lb parcel by priority mail was *way* overpriced. I checked the rates at the USPS website and it turns out that the difference was almost $5.
I received the screen today, and was able to replace it in less than half an hour and my PDA is working fine again.
Unity does not supply any instructions, however. You have to locate these through some persistent googling. I managed to find a helpful repair guide for a similar model at pdaparts.com (even though they weren't selling the part I was looking for).
I am happy with the replacement and speed of delivery. Customer service could be better - the technical suport guy I spoke to shortly after placing my order could not tell me where I could find instructions. But my biggest gripe is their shipping charge.
