On 04/27/07 I ordered what TotalVac described as a "washable" HEPA filter (item #61840) for my Eureka upright vacuum. I subsequently received my order and was concerned about the material used in the construction of the filter. The media used in this $40 filter appeared to be the same paper material that could be found in the cheaper $15 HEPA filters that they sell. From my past experience I know the paper media filters can not be washed out and will disintegrate when water is applied. Also the filter packaging did not contain any instructions on cleaning the filter.

On 05-10-07 I e-mailed TotalVac my concerns over this filter and the fact that I believed it was not "washable." I received no response back from TotalVac Customer Support. While waiting for a response from TotalVac I placed the filter in use. After the filter had been in use, I attempted to wash it out only to have it disintegrate when water was applied.

On 08-10-07 I again sent TotalVac and e-mail concerning the filter, the lack of their response and the fact that the filter was not washable. Since I did not expect a response from this company, I at least asked them to change the product description on their web page to include the fact the filter wasn't washable so that other didn't over pay for this "disposable" filter. The lack of customer support from TotalVac only confirms my suspicion that their product was deceptively advertised.

Upon checking their web site, 01/05/08, the the filter I purchased is still being advertised as "washable" for a price of $39.95. Buyer beware !
