Yesterday, after entering my credit card information for an order, a popup box came up and I was asked to enter the last 4 digits of my SSN for 'verification'. I usually only enter that sort of thing when speaking directly to my credit card company, so I closed the window.

Today, I received and email from Tigerdirect stating "we require additional information from you before your credit card issuing bank will approve the credit card charge for this order". I called their number and they started asking me questions like 'How long are you at you present address?'.

I told the rep that these personal questions were ones similar to ones asked by identity thieves. After she insisted that she needed answers, I cancelled. I then called my credit card company who stated that they had not requested any additional information and that the charge had been going through normally until I called.

I have shopped online many times. This is the first time that I have ever had an experienced like this. I am very dissatisfied with my experience with Tigerdirect.

I think that this company should recognize that asking personal information that could be used for identity theft could make customers wary of doing business with them. If they somehow suspect that there would be an issue, they should have the credit card companies contact the customers. Too bad.

I cannot suggest this company to anyone.
