I was in the market for a Sony DSC-R1 digital camera. Most of the "reputable" sites on the internet were selling it at or near list -- $999. A few of the "familiar" Crooklyn names (and we all know who they are) were pulling their scams in the $650-$750 range. When I saw Tech4Less advertising the camera for roughly the same price I naturally assumed they had to be running the same type of scam as the typical Brooklyn shops. After reading their site and seeing that it supposedly came in the USA sealed retail box and their positive reviews I was still highly skeptical, as most of the Crooklyn reviews are clearly shills -- except for the negative ones.
Well, knock me over with a feather. The next day I got an email saying the camera had actually SHIPPED (tracking number and all)! Not the typical "call to verify your order" email by some Brooklyn-accent, hard-sell scammer asking if I want the user manual for an extra $300.
A few days later the camera arrived -- well packaged and indeed in its original, sealed USA retail box (The original Sony tape seal was intact)! And it actually WORKS! The exterior packaging was pretty beat up by UPS, so my skeptical nature assumed the worst but, to my surprise, the camera box was untouched.
So, in a nutshell, Tech for Less is the REAL DEAL! As an avowed skeptic I was almost hoping to be proven right, but I repent (for today). T4L gets my nod for a reliable and, dare I say, honest online retailer. They've even restored a microcosm of faith in me that there are, somewhere out there, real deals to be had on the internet.
