I have a few relatives that live a good distance away. One is about 1500 miles and one is 3000. Their children, my nieces, are growing up without me getting to see a lot of them. We have been searching for a way to communicate face to face to make up for

Skype Offers Low Cost Calling, Features
by Joubert, June 22, 2008

PC phone system Skype continues its slow march to awareness, if not desktop prominence, as the service turns 5 years old in 2008. Skype is essentially a mini phone system inside your PC. Recent advances have improved the call quality, and the service

Terrible voice quality receiving calls from Skype user
by opinionguy2006, December 31, 2006
|
|||
|
I felt the need to add this review, as whenever a relative calls using Skype to our landline, the quality is atrocious. You get what you pay for right now, but starting Jan 1, 2007 you will actually have to pay for this atrocious quality.
The voice is constantly getting garbled, cut-off, echo-ey. Sometimes I just cut them off and say I will call them back on their landline because it is too annoying to figure out what they are saying. If this is where VOIP is at right now, forget about it. |

SkYPE - a wonderful, should have, broadband service.

SKYPE is a great leap forward in communications service. It encompasses voice, chat, video. file transmitting. The cost of using the service is much cheaper than traditional long distance if a regular phone line is involved on either end. If you are

SKYPE 2: Just another messaging service?
by theuerkorn, March 8, 2006

With AIM, Y! Messenger, MSN Messenger and even Google Chat is there a need for another messaging service? Skype seems to think so and redefines online communication by focusing on the spoken word (and now video) -- a traditionally weak area for most

Skype is GREAT - but don't use Skypemart!
by miriamg, February 16, 2006

I think Skype is wonderful. It's free, it works, it's very straightforward. So recently I decided to use it instead of a landline. Getting a phone number and paying for minutes was easy - although I note that other posters have had trouble with this.

Despite repeated and polite attempts at getting help, they are totally not addressing my requests.
by hatikva, December 8, 2005
|

Don't make the mistake of requiring help with paying them and asking them to help you. They will send you a form letter and totally ignore your polite requests for help. I am trying to pay them after a technical glitch, and after about ten polite requests, they are still sending me packaged form letters and remain totally faceless and unappreciative of a repeat paying customer (me) who just wants to be able to pay. Because of a glitch, I am not able to pay via Paypal or credit card, and they are not doing the least to help me out. In the American system of doing business, you usually do whatever it takes to address the customer's needs. Skype is a fantastic product, which i love using. But their help department is extremely insulting in its dismissal of customer needs. For me, this spoils the luster of their image.
