I ordered a $1200.00 HP notebook computer from ShopNBC which had the feature of playing and recording TV. I followed the HP instructions to install the TV but the remote control did not program. I also paid someone to come in and set this up, but they could not get the remote to program either.
Long long story short, HP said they would replace the remote control but they did not sell a hand-held remote with this computer, only a mobile remote (which I had but was of no use to install the TV). Since there was no identifying number on the remote - which was a HP remote - the case manager at HP said if ShopNBC would let me know what hand-held remote they were selling with this notebook, they would replace it for me.
If HP hadn't told me they would replace the remote before the date I had to return it by (the ORDER date and not the date you received it), I would have returned it. Turns out HP ordered the wrong part twice and so I missed the opportunity to return it. Because of waiting for the remote replacement, and not knowing if I would keep it, I also missed out on the $100.00 rebate.
After giving ShopNBC customer service the HP case number and answering lots of questions, I was told I would be hearing from them in 3-5 days. Weeks past and I called them over and over and was only told that this was purchased from Tiger Direct which does not help me all. I was told they did nothing because there was no date listed when I talked to HP. I spoke to HP many many times and all of this information is documented in the case number which I gave them. Again, they would call me back in 3-5 days. I kept calling but got no answer but they would be turning this over to a supervisor who would call me back in - you guessed it - 3-5 days. After two weeks I called this past Friday and was told they had four part numbers to give me. The fact that they are giving me four part numbers means they don't know the correct part number. And the customer rep had no idea where these numbers came from.
The buyer who arranged for this "package" to be sold by ShopNBC has to know what is in the package and why I am expected to do all the work to try to find out what remote this is is ridiculous. I am 75 years old and homebound with multiple health problems and a nurse's aid. I bought this computer so I could record TV shows and I have never been able to do this since it arrived. I asked ShopNBC if I could write to their salesman, Elliot, who is very tech savy and probably could have solved this problem in five minutes, but they would not give me his e-mail address. In all these months I have not been called back once, and if they had a decent customer service department, this should have been straightened out months ago.
To sell a computer with two remotes - a hand-held remote and a mobile remote - and not to be able to give me the right part number is nuts. And no one has really gone out of their way to find this out - it is ONE number and not four numbers that are maybe's and they can't even tell me where they got the "maybe's" from. The last customer rep I spoke to agreed that someone at ShopNBC, presumably the one who put this package together, should be able to tell me, but could offer me nothing.
I would like to throw this computer out the window at this point. As if this weren' t bad enough, the only time I used the tuner card was when talking to HP to try to get the remote programmed and when I put it in the notebook while on the phone with HP the last time, it didn't work at all.
ShopNBC should offer me a new computer since HP does not sell this computer anymore but all I get is I'm sorry. Not as sorry as I am. DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING COSTLY FROM SHOPNBC. In the past I have ordered silverware or linens and I was planning on buying a large size TV but after this experience I know better - buyer beware.
