I love my bed, but getting the configuration I wanted took some doing. S.C. put some discontinued models on clearance about this time last year, and even with my credit I qualified via their second string "Help Card" option. But single-chamber designs weren't included in the sale, so I had to get the dual chamber 4000. While it was quite nice at first, I found myself frustrated by the firm foam divider, and saw the number on the remote vary wildly from what it had been when I got out of bed, even though I hadn't changed it and the firmness had stayed the same. So I tried removing the divider -- at their suggestion -- and then fell into the "sinkhole in the middle" that another reviewer on here mentions. I'd torn the divider when I pulled it out, and they wanted to charge ten bucks to send out a new one. Concerned over the other problem I just mentioned I asked them to come out to check, and they wanted almost two hundred dollars!!
I called back a few days later and got another rep, who insisted on charging for a service call, but agreed to swap me out for a single chamber, which has since proven absolutely heavenly. While I was waiting for them to arrive, though, the frame and spindly plastic legs buckled, so they had to replace them, too. I suspect this had something to do with the complaining the original installers did about having to break down and remove my old wooden frame for my foam mattress from Ikea -- they almost refused to risk it due to liability issues, which would have left me out my money with no bed and no clear way out (as I'm legally blind and can't undo my own bedframes).
Bottom line: IF you get a good installation crew, IF the parts are all in good sturdy working order and IF you can afford/qualify for the model, size and configuration you want, get a Sleep Number bed. Having the option to change your firmness on a whim is more than a gimmick: I often find myself wanting a different level of support from night to night. Interestingly, you do just as well to adjust it until it feels good each time you climb into bed, without worrying about dialing in any specific number. For a while I was a 40, but now I find myself at 55 most nights. But even if I'd been offered a sale price on a nondigital remote (with just the up and down buttons and no display) that would have been OK, too. So, get it, but make sure it's what you want, and that their people give you the SERVICE you want.
