I Get Tears From Shopping at Sears!

First off, I want to make it crystal clear that I am a loyal Sears customer at their brick and mortar stores. It is a fantastic place to shop! I wish I could say the same for their online store. This is the pits! Two short raspberries for Sears.com: Plllipffff! Plipffffff!

I've been researching to purchase a new mattress for our new master bedroom suite. A super king sized bed with all the frills! I first went to Sleepy's brick and mortar store (an East coast mattress chain). They gave me a fricken headache listening to all their BS about how they have the very best of everything and the lowest prices. Actually, they stink and their prices are MUCH higher than most of the other stores I visited. So, I decided to check out good old Sears.

I first went to their website to see if they had any good July 4th sales. Great! It looks like I am lucky so far! There is a 50% off ad glaring from the page. But that is it! I can't click on the ad to find out more details about the sale. So I click on the Sealy, because I'm sure that is the brand I want to buy. It shows me the Sealy mattresses that are on sale - all at 50% off. But there are so many! I just want to see King sized mattresses. So, I click on King size and guess what? It shows me listings of all of the King size mattresses - but mattresses only! Not sets! Ugh! I want to buy a complete set! There is no feature to show the mattress with box spring together.

I gave up after a while and decided to go to the store instead. Guess what? The store had a better sale going on than on the internet! 50% off plus an additional 20% off plus free shipping. I did a lot of sleeping around, but I could not decide. The salesman there was pretty much worthless (sorry) he did not know much about the mattresses, prices, or selection.

I went home and checked out the internet again. Even though the store had less mattresses on display, I could not locate the mattress I liked on the Sears web site. Well that stinks! How the heck am I supposed to get information about the mattresses?

The web site is rather robust though. It has lots of categories: Appliances, Automotive, Baby, Clothing, Electronics and Computers, Entertainment, Fitness and Sports, For the Home, Health Care, Beauty, Jewlery, Lawn and Garden, Shoes, Tools, and Toys and Games. These are the main categories. You can also check their current weekly ad, and registery, gifts, and parts sections. They also have a pretty cool closeouts section with some sales in select areas. However, most of the items listed for sale were priced higher than many other sites regular prices - no big deals there.

After wrestling with this web site for almost two hours, I could not find anything I wanted to buy. This is a rare occurance for me! I hardly ever go away from an internet store withoug getting something. This is also contrary to their store - I get some really good bargins in the stores.

Sears also charges for shipping with no option to pick up items from the local store for reduced rates, as in some of their competitors (such as Walmart). The checkout is secure, and pretty much standard. They do take major credit cards and don't over-bug you with offers to setup a Sears charge account at checkout. Ugh! Never fall for that trap! They have one of the highest rate credit cards in the world and if you forget to make a payment you will pay for it!

Overall, I would say that Sears needs to revamp their web site. I mentioned this to a store salesman and he explained a lot of customers complained about it. I would not recommend this web site - go to the store instead. It is a lovely place to shop and far less frustrating. Thanks for reading my review and best wishes for a nice day!

Mike
