I am still in disbelief at what Sears did to us! Customers mean NOTHING to them anymore, and we will never shop there again. Also, we closed our Sears Mastercard account. On October 1, 2007, went online to Sears.com and purchased a water softener to be installed by Sears. (the delivery was the only thing that went right). I received an email on what to do next. Followed what it said, and nothing.....I finally called them to arrange an install (this took several days!). In the meantime, 3 weeks have passed. My husband went to the store, because he was told he had to 'sign' the 'Bid' paperwork - for the company to bid the job. Also, the sales clerks were confused why my husband had to come to the store in the first place. His cashier had no idea what a 'bid' was! Anyway, the rules had changed - my husband really did not have to sign anything yet. At this time, he paid $259.99 for the install, being informed that it could be more. When the Sears man showed up at my door I quickly realized that Sears had 'done it' to us again! They sent a REPAIR MAN! I told the guy that this stupid water softener has been sitting in our basement for almost a month and no one wants to do anything about it! He informed me that he was not a licensed plumber, and could not install it. Boy I was ticked off! So, it took several more phone calls by me to get the REAL kind of person out to my home. Right before the 30 day mark had come, we saw in the Sears ad the w.softener we had bought had gone on sale, for $70 LESS than we paid. I called the 800# online about it, and was told, "sorry, nothing can be done". I was REALLY ticked off by this time! My husband had to call the stupid store and speak to a manager. This taking up more of our time. The manager told us we can get the difference back with our receipt. I stayed in the car with our children while husband went in to get the $70 back. Almost ONE hour later, he came out of the store saying they had no idea you could do that, I do not know that manager...blah blah. The clencher was - it would not take his Sears card to refund the difference!!!!! They asked that I come into the store, Boy, I had to hold back ripping heads off at this point. Another 30 minutes passed, and the sales clerks and the manager figured out how to 'do it'. We were told never to buy anything online - it is too dangerous! Also, the manager told us when anything is purchased at Sears.com, the stores have NO IDEA what to do if there is a problem! I truly believe that! OK, the bid guy came and went, a week and a half later, he finally called to tell me the price to install. First - the w. softener cost us $407, the bid was $35, and the delivery was $65. The bid guy told me it would be AN ADDITIONAL $150 to install it! That is more than we paid for the stupid softener. Add the delivery and bid fee, we got screwed. I hung up on the moron. Did not return his call when he called back. That night, my husband loaded that stupid w.softener (still in box) in his back seat and got our money back! We did not get refunded the bid fee or the delivery charge. We are out $100 and alot of wasted hours.
