I made a deal over the telephone to trade a used Roland Vk88 on a used Nord C1 at the Paramus N.J. store. I live in Pennsylvania so I drove 2hours to make the purchase. When I got there I talked to "Brian"--the guy I made the deal with over the phone. He was eager to make the deal, but when this other guy (no name)who I assume was the manager, played the vk88, he said the volume control pot didn't work. Then he said to me "I know about this deal"
I have always used an expression floor pedal, so I didn't notice the volume knob problem. We plugged in the expression pedal and the Vk88 worked perfectly.
The Nord C1 is a used piece which appeared to work correctly, however there were some dents and scratches on the left side.
At that point, the Manager said that he would not take the Vk88 on trade and the deal was off.
Both the Vk88 and the C1 are used gear. Sam Ashe was getting $2700.00 dollars (full retail price) for the used C1 less my used Vk88. I was agreeing to take less then half of what I paid when I purchased it at Sam Ashe a few years ago.
The deal was made over the phone 3-4 days earlier.I believe the manager thought he wasn't making enough money or had another buyer for the used C1. I believe the manager decided to find a reason to trash the deal.
I was willing to negotiate further due to the problem with the volume control-- but the manager was not.
I was quickly and completely "dismissed". I was not treated like a valued customer. The manager's quickness to trash the deal, even though I was willing to negotiate further, leads me to conclude, that the offer was not valid from the start.
I will never purchase anything from Sam Ashe again. I will tell this story to my friends, fellow musicians, and will blog it everywhere on the net.
