Full review
Always having been one for writing lengthy reviews, this one is going to be pretty short because I have absolutely nothing positive to say about shopping with Roaman's.com except they make basic, classic clothing for us plus sized women that will not leave you wondering if something is hanging out that shouldn't, or "Does this make me look FAT?"
However, that being said; their prices are outrageously expensive (60 dollars for a pair of jeans that aren't even real denim) unless you can find a coupon code. Which you probably will have at least fifty of them sitting in your inbox in amongst the slew of spam you get from them at least three times a week. Clearance items aren't priced so bad however, but their fabrics leave much to be desired. After shopping with them for the past two years of my newly gained weight, I feel I've gotten a pretty good grasp on how they operate.
Shipping: Slow and expensive at best. They almost always ship USPS (no tracking number) and use the cheapest method possible which is parcel post and in a tyvek envelope. I recently ordered a shirt from them. They charged me 6.99 to ship it. Now, there is no way a one pound shirt cost 6.99 to ship. Their website also says it may take 7-10 business days to arrive to you, but they fail to mention that it may also take them 5 days from the date you ordered your item to actually fill it for shipping. If you order more than one item they won't send everything in one box and combine shipping charges. They charge you PER ITEM and send everything out at different times. Can we say "Disorganized"? That shirt never made it to my house. And I have yet to see a refund. See Customer Service below.
Customer Service: Their reps are untrained at best, and some of them are just downright rude. You will never see a refund for anything that never made it to your house until almost 30 days later. They say that UPS and USPS makes the company wait "24 days" (but in reality it's more like 30) before they can consider the package lost and to issue a refund. Isn't that nice. In my opinion if it doesn't have a tracking number how in the world is USPS going to know where it is if *I* can't find out where it is either?? How many "small, grey, tyvek envelopes" do you think the USPS sees every day?? Its like looking for a needle in a haystack. Unless Roaman's themselves have a tracking number for it and they're just not telling you....
I work for one of the biggest gift companies in america. If a customer calls and says they did not recieve their package for whatever reason, and we have no tracking info on it, or say we do and the last scan on that package was four days ago believe me they are going to get a refund from us IMMEDIATELY. For Roaman's to make a customer wait 30 days or more before they even think about issuing a refund is BAD customer service. It's almost like they're "borrowing" your money to pay their business expenses meanwhile you're sitting there holding the bag without your merchandise in it. That is one way to make a customer VERY unhappy. I have been in that situation many a time before. And demanding a refund right then and there does not work. They'll just get hostile with you. It's almost like their reps are not monitored when they're on the phone. Or if they are, they certainly don't care about their scores. They get a big fat ZERO in this department because they failed to satisfy me on more than one ocassion. And it was something I considered a simple request, getting my money back for an item I considered undelivered. They wouldn't even offer me free shipping on my next order. Which is fine, because personally, I'm not ever shopping with them again.
Order Accuracy:
I've had a few experiences when I've ordered an item and they sent me a substitution instead that wasn't even in my size. I've also had a few experiences where they added items to my order that I didn't order and have charged me for them. And on top of it they wanted me to pay to return it to them. Very bad business practice, to send your customer something they didn't order, charge them for it, and then to charge them to send it back. Have they not heard of return shipping labels? I'm going to give them a 75% on this one, because it's not all the time I've had things like that happen, but it's happened often enough to be noticeable.
Sizing: Check the size chart for the item you're ordering. Some things run small, some things run large. Measure yourself and keep those measurements handy. And keep remeasuring yourself. I do it once every month because as you know a woman's body fluctuates. Some manufacturer's 2x might be a Roaman's 3x or even a 4x, it depends on the CUT. And if you're ordering anything with a "contoured waistband" GO UP A SIZE. Your hips will thank you. But I've found any and all of their pants run really small and most of their shirts run so big. I ordered a 3x and I was swimming in it, but a 2x was too small.
Quality: Some of their items are made well, and most of their items are made very cheaply. I had a lovely pair of khaki capris that I washed IN COLD WATER and the leg seams came undone all the way up to the zipper area. The seams apparently weren't finished as they are on MOST of their items, especially the shoulder and arm seams in their shirts aren't fully finished off properly and have raw edges on them. It's great if you're handy with a sewing machine but come on... for what I paid, you'd think something would last past three or four washings. I'm giving them a 50% in this area.
Overall: It's obvious that I only shop here because other plus size stores have clothing that is also made very cheaply. On top of that it's all out of my age range. You're either dressing like a hoochie or a 60 year old lady. I can't find anything in between. But I shop here when they have their basics and classic items on sale. That being said, if I only order one or two things from Roaman's it seems like the packages do make it to my house, but it's when I make huge orders of say five or six items that is where things go lost and missing. If you can find something similar elsewhere you're probably better off unless you like dealing with surly Customer Service agents and want to argue for 30 days over a 6 dollar refund. For the quality, their prices are outrageous and to be treated the way I was by their CSR's is inexcuseable.
