Failed to notify me that product was discontinued

Ordered running shoes, immedately saw the preauthorization show up on my credit card. Got an email from them saying my order had been processed and would be shipped directly from the manufacture. Never showed up. Exactly 3 weeks later I called Road Runner, the gal that answered the phone could not determine why the order had not arrived, would have someone check on it and get back to me. A few days later I got an email saying that the product had been discontinued. Preauthorization was dropped from my credit card. But I wonder if I would have ever found out if I had not called. I suspect they knew about the problem long before I called.

I will never shop there again
by kbiris22, April 20, 2009

I purchased a pair of discontinued Asics Kayano's from the website store last week. My checking account was charged for the shoes, so obviously, I thought they were on the way. After waiting two weeks, I called to find out where they were. They informed me that they no longer had the shoe... Okay, "no problem I said, but please find them from another vendor, or give me the newer model for the same price". After being a loyal customer of theirs for over ten years, you would think they would honor the purchase. They of course did not and just said "we are sorry". I informed them if they had contacted me sooner, then I could have purchased the shoes elsewhere before they were no longer available. Now here I am less than one week from a "race" and no new shoes, nor do I have time to break in a new pair. I definitely will not shop there ever again, and would warn anyone who buys shoes from them, that don't count on receiving your items until they arrive at your door. So long road runners.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE

TERRIBLE! I ordered over $130 worth of shoes and accessories and was told I needed to subscribe to their magazine to process the order at a lesser discounted amount than what was originally advertised. What a scam! Will never shop there!

RRS will not honor their purchase agreements.
by fish70mg, February 23, 2009
|

|
Road Runner Sports failed to honor the Family Plan where you buy five pairs of running shoes and get the next pair free. I completed the 5th pair last November 2008 and had to wait for the coupon for my free pair for 90 days due to refund policies. They have within the last month discontinued the Family Plan and will not honor their agreement with the free pair. I will not purchase anymore from RRS unless they rectify the situation and honor their free shoe advertisement and would recommend all boycott RRS. If in the future if RRS honors their agreement then I will publish their rectification. I have reported the same to the Better Business Bureau in San Diego.

They aren't as great as they make themselves out to be
by Baldwyn, October 28, 2007

I'm writing this review to address both their online store, and their physical store.
My three experiences with ordering online have been good. Delivery speed was fine, I got the shoes I ordered, and there were no real issues. My one experience with in-store purchasing was unsatisfactory. I was not impressed with their "fitting expert" who helped me. I was trying to find a pair of shoes that didn't aggravate my knee. He didn't measure my foot for size, analyze my arch, or anything. He did watch me on the treadmill, but had no feedback. half the shoes were not available in my size (men's 10). In store selection was comparable to Foot Locker, which was very disappointing. The treadmill was nice to test the shoes for running, but as I found out, I bought a pair of shoes I can run in, but not wear just sitting around the office because after 30 minutes they hurt. He also didn't know what "electrolyte tablets" were, something I would expect a specialized running store to carry. I found the shoes online for $20 less later. |

Horrible.
I have never had such bad service. I ordered sneakers because they said they were in stock Oct 9. I called to see where the sneakers were Oct 17 and was told that they would contact the distributor and get back to me via email. I never heard from them again. I called again Oct 18 and they still didn't know what to tell me. I waited until the 23 to call because that would be the full 7-10 business days. When I called they were closed for natural disaster. I called today only to be told that they sent me an email on the 20th telling me that the shoes were not in stock. I never got that email. Regardless, I should have been informed well before that date. I waited and waited. I will never order from them again. |

Terrible experience...automatic renewal of RAC without authorization
by tygrecat, November 5, 2006
|
|||||
|
In April of 2005 I signed up for the Run America Club (RAC)to get free shipping and a free shipping return. (I was ordering several different running shoes in order to find one I liked and knew I would have to return the others).
In April of 2006 RRS charged my credit card $39.99 for a renewal of RAC without my request. When I called to complain I was told I would be credited back $39.99. When the refund showed up it was for $33.33, a 'pro-rated' amount. I will not order from this company again. |

Took over a week of waiting to find out "out of stock"
by stume, January 12, 2005
|
|||||||
|
As a student searching for a replacement for my 2-year-old "daily-use" shoes (they share athletic duty with my 3- and 4-year-old athletic shoes) which are basically falling apart, I surfed for quite a while for bargain/clearance running shoes. I narrowed my search down to 2 pairs which I liked and ended up choosing to order from Roadrunnersports.com. The price was good and the shoes were well-rated by online reviewers. I was pleased with my "purchase." However after over a week of waiting, I check online to see if I can track down my shoes. "shipped" via "USPS" according to order status (and I "knew" they were shipped a week ago from an email sent out). Later in the afternoon, I got a call telling me that they were never shipped.
I am, of course, not satisfied at all with their inventory tracking, or that it took them over a week to tell me so (though I do appreciate the eventual call...thanks). I would give them another chance if the price is right, but I might consider following an online order with a phone call to make sure I actually get the item. |

Think twice before wasting your time! Very Poor Communication!
by valu4us, December 30, 2004

Think twice before wasting your time! Very Poor Communication! They sent a false e-mail stating the order is completed and will be shipped. After 3 weeks of waiting for these shoes for my son, I phoned their customer service to first be informed that there was a problem with my order and then I was told that the item is no longer available. This false advertising of product availability and no accurate notification was a waste of my time and I needlessly disclosed my personal information and credit card information to a company with questionable business practices.

Excellent customer service, fast shipping, easy returns, high prices

I am a runner and I have been shopping at RRS for 2 years now. I am a member of their Running Club. Although their prices are high, even with the discount, I like the benefit of being able to return something I have bought and used and didn't like. I have returned socks that have given me blisters and sneakers that hurt my feet without any problem. I think their customer service is great too and I like that they have shoe reviews online. I always recieve my order within 2-3 days of ordering online so I don't know what people are complaining about slow delivery for. I recommend this store for runners, I also suggest becoming a RAC member for $20/year.

Not so good.

In Aug. 2004 I bought a pair of New Balance 763 shoes online at RoadRunner Sports. My invoice stated a total cost after discounts of $56.98. This was the amount I agreed to and thought I had paid with my AMEX. When I looked at my AMEX statement online RoadRunner had charged me $73.98. I had to call it to their attention after which they had pretty weak customer service. Said they would refund within 7-10 business days. On top of it all $8.99 for shipping which takes almost 2 weeks.

I'm never ordering for them again. Overpriced, SLOW shipping!
by amandavtgmu, August 1, 2004

|
Anyone who charges me $8.99 for shipping and packs the shoebox in an ENVELOPE that literally takes over TWO WEEKS for me to receive is never, ever getting my business again.
(SportsBasement.com is a great company and ships fast, so is just about every other shoe store I've ever purchased from online.) Use someone else if you want your shoes packed well and delivered quick with decent customer service that does not come back with weak excuses for why the shoes haven't arrived yet!! |

They can do better
by missfoster, February 2, 2004

They charge WAY too much for shipping ($8.99) and it takes a minimum of 7 days to receive your shoes. I ordered shoes from another place (not naming names) payed $4.95 for shipping and got the shoes in 2 days! No excuse for their shipping charges. Plus, their size recommendations are horrible. I had to return two different pairs of shoes because they "recommended" the wrong sizes.

Great selection, if it was in stock!!! Beware
by cake97, December 19, 2003

Placed an order on December 3rd, RoadRunner was one of the few sites to have the running top I was looking for. Expected the top to arrive within 10 days, no such luck, 10 days later I receive an email saying the item is no longer in stock, so I called and was told it was a mistake the item was on its way. The following monday I receive another email saying the item is not being shipped, it is not in stock and that I can call if I want to buy something else. It is now the 19th and having talked to customer service three times they don't have the item at all, yet it remains on the website. For a summary, DONT ORDER OVER THE INTERNET, CALL FIRST BECAUSE THEY DONT HAVE ANY SORT OF INVENTORY SYSTEM. (but at least they didnt charge me for the item they didnt send me)
