I purchased a gift from a wedding registry for a friends son who lives in Ca. I had the gift sent to the Cambell Ca. store for pick up as requested. REI was persistant in notifying me of the package whereabouts. I live in Ohio and am not the recipient of the gift/package. I finally assumed that the bride or groom were NOT going to be notified that a package awaits them. I don't understand why the couple registered would not be notified. Surely REI would have more info on how to reach this recipient than I.

I answered "on time" as I was told 2-3 weeks back-order. I did receive in that time frame. I had selected the delivery to the store option once I discovered that it was on backorder.
The pickup wasn't very smooth. (albeit, I did not have the emailed confirm with bar code. I happened to be near the store, and it was convenient to stop in then. I had the receipt, so I figured...) The woman asked for my name, took my receipt and disappeared for a while. When she returned she hadn't been able to find my package, and asked if it could be under another name. I told her I had made the purchase. She then asked about the member number, which is under my husband's name. (She had not asked that previously.) In the end, fine, but it could have been smoother if she had asked for a membership name initially, instead of just "name".

I liked the reviews that were with the products - I was not familiar with the item and was purchasing it as a gift - I also knew if the product was not the right thing, that REI would stand by the product to make it right. I like the on-line ordering, knowing there is a "brick-and-mortar" store nearby if I need assistance.

Whole experience was very pleasant. Ended up returning the item (straps were thicker than I expected and hurt my skin) but bought something else when I went to pick it up at the store. So I enjoyed shopping and REI made a profit! The delay in getting the item was rather long--a couple of weeks--but it was worth it.

The product was not in stock so I had to order it. In order to pick up the product you had to print the e-mail notice that it arrived. Not everyone has a printer to do so. There was no problem without it, though.

Got what I wanted. Prices on the high side. I like the wide selection available both online and in your pleasant hill store.
For me time is money. So to wait in line just to pick something up is about a sd minute errand.
But if I plan a trip to rei or need something last minute, I love going to the store.
Actually it's addicting. I love maps, camping gear, and looking at the GPS handhelds which I am thinking about bhuying.

I really like REI, we have been members for years. I had a large order from REI Outlet that was stopped because I entered the wrong experation date for the credit card I used. Someone called, the date was corrected, only they did not make the change. I lost the order. They sent me a 20% of coupon, but the items I ordered were 30 to 60% off and by the time I found out the order was rejected again they were no longer available.

I need to return an item because of fit--always an issue. I need to decide if I wait until I go to an REI store or if I mail it for extra cost (which I find irritating). Because of return time turn-around, I could not use 1 item for a planned trip, which was sad. It would have been good.
