Plow and Hearth is one of my all-time favorite online stores. Ive purchased from P&H off and on over the years by catalog, and I enjoy getting the book and looking at things from the recliner chair . . . but the site is more fun. Im not usually one to say that a site is top notch, but P&H really did a wonderful job with the online space.
Its easy to find the products, and they add articles about things related to the products. The categories really work for me. I go to the birding section and find feeders and things like a solar water container that will keep the birds in drinking water without freezing up. They have gifts for under $50 or under $25 by click. They have a magazine-type section with information about home and outdoors. I love to look at the recipes and at articles about birds and how to attract certain types.
Though most of my purchases have been for bird items, Ive also picked up things like the rain gauge for the kids to check how much rain we get and small tools for the garden. They have big-ticket items like furniture (and a great wooden glider that I would love to buy) but also smaller items that are either cute and add to the overall look of the home or yard or things that are really useful. Some of the storage units that are really pretty would be terrific to keep yard items or toys put up and protected.
The prices are pretty high, but the quality is top-notch. Cheaper bird feeders Ive bought have torn up, but the P&H feeder is still going strong. Id rather pay more and get something that will last, and I can do that at P&H. On some things like the purple marlin house, which I would like to buy, the prices run at or below other spaces Ive checked. They include a book with the purple marlin house, so youll know how to take care of the house and the birds that visit. You have to take the house down and clean that and things that you might not know if you didnt read up and then have the book to refer to.
When you order, the items are packed really nice and come fast. It really looks like they care about the things they mail out to you. If you did get something and had a problem, then they have a 100 percent satisfaction guarantee. Ive never been less than totally thrilled with things they have sent, so Ive never had to contact the company about problems. Im sure all companies blow it from time-to-time, but it would really surprise me to get something second rate from P&H.
I always have a mental wish list at P&H. Though I cant buy real often with needing to get things like jeans and socks for the boys and food for the table and also books which I love so much, I enjoy buying something nice and useful and fun for the house or yard when I can. Everything Ive ever bought from P&H, Ive been thrilled with. I save up now rather than buy on impulse for lower prices and lower quality, and I buy at P&H when I get ahead and can afford to splurge. With P&H, I know Ill have something that will last and last.
If youve never visited P&H, then give them a look. Youll find great articles and ideas. They have some neat holiday recipes up right now, and Im looking for our Thanksgiving meal. Im also reading up on birds, since we always feed and water during the cold months. I enjoy visiting even when I cant shop, and thats unusual with a store site. They give me lots of great information for free, and when I can buy something . . . I think of B&H. They are a company that I trust and one that I would never hesitate to recommend to family and friends.
