I believe I located this store through a link originally posted on Petfinder. People were discussing premium brands of cat and dog foods that I had never heard of as I'd never seen them carried locally.

Why did I choose PetFoodDirect?
I am continually seeking to improve my cats' diet and would like to eventually convert them to a 100% raw diet. As I learned about the disgusting ingredients in cheap foods that contain by-products and and how bad grains are for cats, I decided to spend the extra money for a food that was healthier for them. PetFoodDirect sold premium brands that I couldn't find in stores around here. So sign me up!

Variety
PetFoodDirect sells cheapo brands like Friskies, Meow Mix, Purina, and Fancy Feast. They carry medium quality foods such as Eagle Pack and Nutro Natural. And they carry high-end products like Natural Balance, Nature's Variety Prarie, Merrick, Felidae, Wysong, etc. I found foods that I could buy at PetCo or PetSmart usually at better prices--and I found foods that I had heard of but could never locate. The range of products that they carry is truly amazing and everyone can find something to suit their budget and needs.

Price
The prices range between "the same as local stores" and "cheaper than local stores". As I said, I began shopping at this site for the wide selection of products as opposed to price. I couldn't really compare some items because I had never seen retail prices in the area. Worst case scenario, you pay about the same as you would at a brick and mortar store. They do this cute little annoying thing, however, which is to send you email coupons for anywhere between 13%-25% off of your total order, and they are usually good for almost everything on the site including food and basic supplies. I try to hold out for the 25% off sales though they are rather rare--so I usually stock up when I get a 20% off coupon, that way shipping works out to be free.

Email Coupons
I'm not exactly sure what I did to join the "savings club" other than, maybe, placing an order. I receive emails weekly or bi-weekly offering me a percentage off of my order. You can get 5% off automatically just by clicking a link on their website and you can get 10% off all orders by using a code found on your receipt. Their email coupons start at 13% and go up to 25%, at least that I've seen. I also have received offers for 15%, 17.76% (4th of July), 20%, and 22%. In my experience, if you get one good offer, you'll get a better one in a few days. As I said, I try to hold out for the 25% off but I've only seen that one once. I usually buy at 20% off because that at least covers the shipping.

Shipping Costs
They charge you the actual shipping cost based on distance from warehouse and total weight order. I live in NJ and I receive my orders from PA, so shipping is very reasonably priced for this area--even if I don't shop with a % off coupon.

How Long Does It Take To Get Your Order?
This is the one problem I could say I have with this company. It takes 4 to 5 days for an online order to be processed and for you to receive a UPS tracking number. The good news is that I receive that email around 10 or 11pm at night and the order is delivered to my doorstep by 2pm the next day.

My Overall Experience
I don't have a bad thing to say about PetFoodDirect.com. I love the huge selection they have for cats and dogs. I have discovered many new lines of food that are super-premium and great for my cats. The pricing is good and it gets even better when you use one of their email coupons. It does take a bit of time to receive your order but that just requires some advance planning to make sure you don't run out of food in the meantime.
