I am a frequent shopper at Old Navy.com because I have an infant and cannot get to the store as often as I'd like, and even when I get to the store with my child, I can't try on, so the web site is a necessity.
I have mixed feelings about the web site, though.
First, the front page is WAY too busy. It is always flooded by models, products, sale alerts, clearance reminders, category tags, search options--all too big and too loud. I feel aggravated the minute I go to the page. I have to quickly get off the main page into the areas. The colors they choose do not compliment each other; right now it's orange and blue...awful! It is nice to have the sign in and order status right at the top. The shopping bag is to the right with one of the ugly blue plastic shopping bags like they have in the store and 3 crazy figures dancing or whatever to the top and side of the cart. It brings my eyes to it, but again, it's ugly and annoying.
The "areas" of products are clearly labeled at the top: Men (why men are first I have always wondered--they can't be the #1 shoppers, so why put them first?), women, women's plus, maternity, boys (again, why boys first--weren't we taught girls first?), girls, infant boys, infant girls. You just click on the tag and you are sent to the area.
Once you are there, again there is a crazy, frustrating scene and ugly colors and to the side is the area's categories. I hate that they are on the left side of the screen although I see the logic, we read left to right. It's still annoying. It is nicely organized, though. You can easily navigate to whatever you wanted to shop for from new arrivals to bargains (my favorite section).
You just click on the section and go to, let's just say, bargains, and you are there. Most of the products are photographed alone, which is nice since I don't need anymore craziness, I just need to see the item!
One section that does bother me, though, is the belt section. Why? Because they put the belt on a model and then "shave" off the models waist to teeny tiny. I think that's DISGUSTING. I know their target audience is tweenies, but come on, whose waist is a size -0? I never go to that section by the way. I've also written the company about it and only got a curt response that they would pass it on...whatever!
Okay, so let's say I found my item, a shirt, I click on it (an annoying "Quick Look" foater pops up--I can do without that!), pick a color, size and add to bag...that's easy! It goes to my bag and this annoying little screen drops below the chopping bag and tells me to complete the wardrobe with their suggestions--sorry, but I can dress myself without them telling me what to wear with the shirt I just put in the cart! It takes a while (too long)for it to disappear so I can continue my shopping.
I want to check out, so I go to my shopping bag and again, that screen is way too jam packed with more images and options. You sign in and check out. Easy, if the screen doesn't freeze when you try to sign-in. (that happens too often!)
Yes, the shipping is cheap $5, and has easy returns, but all in all, this site is just, you guessed it, annoying. I try my best to get in and get out...so I don't have to look at everything or linger...
The products are okay. I only shop Old Navy for cheap T-shirts and baby clothes. I don't buy for quality here because I don't get it.
