coupon expired before the expiration date I was given

I received an email offering $10 off on purchases over $50 "through July 28". When I tried to place my purchase on July 28th, the coupon had already expired. Repeated phone calls got a different story each time till the time got to be worth more than the coupon. I was extremely surprised to see such poor performance at such a big name company.
