Ever since a friend told me about Newegg.com, I was hooked. I couldn't find anybody else that had cheaper prices on new hardware, or the most "free ship" specials around. They have it all, and whatever you want to buy you probably won't find it cheaper anywhere else.
Shipping:You can almost always find a free ship special on any item you're ordering. Sometimes it's that better video card with more memory and the better chipset (as in my most recent experience) that doesn't cost any more than the "budget" video card with an okay chipset and just enough memory to get you by. It depends on what you're ordering. They primarily use UPS guaranteed 2 or 3 day service to any zipcode that I've ever lived in. And I've lived in my fair share of zipcodes. I've never had UPS damage any of my boxes, but I have had them leave them on my doorstep in plain sight. However, I have never and I mean NEVER ordered an item and not recieved it. I also have never ordered an item and not recieved it when they said I would. They also try as close as humanly possible to ship everything in one huge box that way you get all your parts at once. I'm going to give them 90% here, I really wish they would require a signature on their items. Otherwise UPS leaves them on your doorstep and someone could walk off with your new computer/digicam/burner whatever you bought.
Order Accuracy: All things aside, having ordered four new systems from them over the past four years (I upgrade once a year) and several components to replace aging optical drives and hard drives, they've never added anything to my order that was not supposed to be there. Ever. And I've never been missing parts either. 100% for accuracy.
Customer Service:
Beyond the one encounter I have had with them (to ask a question), I can honestly say that I have NEVER had to contact them about anything. No RMA's, no refunds, nothing. I've always gotten what I purchased and everything has worked out of the box (so far so good). With regards to the question, I asked on live chat (hours are 5 am to 5 pm PST) and the answer was WRONG!!! Thank god I looked on the system specs portion of a processor I was buying. That kind of bothered me, I mean, how do you not know whether or not a processor comes with a heatsink and cooling fan? The specs said clearly that it did, when the rep said that it did not. I overlooked the specs obviously and asked before reading, but I really shouldn't have had to go back and RE read the specs. They should KNOW this, if it's a Retail item it comes with everything it should; cables, manual etc. OEM items however may NOT. I shouldn't have had to find that out the hard way, like I said thank goodness I read. Their return policy is rather stupid, on certain items you can't get a refund only a replacement. Kind of a moot point if you have to keep returning a certain item of hardware if it doesn't work with what you have. Within 30 days you can get a refund or replacement on a processor but after that you have a manufacturer's warranty (as with any other product you buy). They should lighten up on their restrictions a bit. I'm giving them a 95% in this category.
Overall, I'm really pleased with newegg. It's better than surfing ebay and getting sniped out of an auction at the last second, and you have the confidence knowing that the part is guaranteed to work unless it's Open Box. You have at least some sort of return policy and recourse if it doesn't work. And it's almost guaranteed their pricing won't be as ridiculous for something NEWER and better, than what someone on ebay wants for the same USED item.
