Never again -- expensive, slow, and THE WORST customer service!

I would NEVER buy from Lighting Universe again.  I ordered a handful of products that they said they had 'in stock', only to discover two weeks later that they didn't have them at all.  Not only did they not proactively notify me (instead they waited for me to call asking where my products were), but when I requested expedited shipping -- which I was willing to pay for since they had completely stalled my contractor -- they refused.

The customer service agent was belligerent, bordering on abusive, and in the end I had to live with their ridiculous lead time and epically poor service. 

Never again.

Website nicely displays product and descriptions making it easy to navigate. Many products are unique designs not seen elsewhere. I like quality but the prices are pretty good which pleased me. Prompt delivery and really packed well. Will check Lighting Universe first anytime I need to shop for lamps or lights before searching elsewhere.

I did not get the final purchase price until after my credit card had gone through. Later I learn that the funds were in $US. Also a $ 29 shipping fee was added (free shipping had been promised) When the package arrived it was a COD that cost me another $69.The shipping time promised on the web was two days and it took the package TWO WEEKS !!!!instead. No I would not buy again from this company & I would not recommend it ever. When I entered the site I entered as a Canadian customer and I had no way to know the final conditions of my purchase before I finalize it.

Should be told it is an American firm I signed onto the Canadian website and ended up paying $40.00 duty which was unexpected. Instructions in package were good but could include notice that wires may be or should be shortened if not using the extension. Include also what the rubber widget (inserting lights) and the widget of tightening the shades are for.

Great prices, and I'll shop again with them for the low prices. However, it took 9 days from order to receive notification of shipping, and a total of 12 days before I received the merchandise. That makes them one of the slowest shippers I've encountered, and this was a longer period than they stated on their website.

It was excellent. I ordered three items. Unfortunately, one item was broken which was one of two of the same pieces. But it only took one phone call and all was resolved immediately. The new product was sent intact and everything looks great. I would definitely use this merchant again.

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! DO NOT WORK WITH LIGHTING UNIVERSE!

Lighting Universe advertises 5 to 8 days shipping and free shipping over $50.  They notified us our order was back ordered and would be shipped in 5 weeks.  We cancelled the order based on that.  They shipped the order three weeks after it was placed even though we had cancelled it.  They now want to charge us shipping and refuse to send call tags to pick up their merchandise.  We have left numerous messages for Jennifer (supervisor in Customer Service) but she will not call back.  I was on hold for 25 minutes waiting to talk to her, only to be put through to her voice mail.  We called Elk Lighting (the company who manufactures and shipped the lights) who has been very responsive.  They called their contact @ Lighting Universe and "STRONGLY" urged them to take responsibility for getting the lights returned.  STILL NO CALL FROM LIGHTING UNIVERSE.  With all the good companies to deal with on-line, I strongly urge on-line shoppers to AVOID LIGHTING UNIVERSE and work with companies who have a responsive and efficient customer service department.

This by far was a JOKE, I will NEVER order from here again. FREE SHIPPING?  --dont believe it, my lights from the manufacturer came in --oh maybe 100 pieces, I had to sit and put them together, I filled the whole table and floor up with glass particles pocking my fingers, I called to complain and wanted to return both, -I diden't even open 1 box. You are basically on your own. Pay to send it back 60 dollars, and OH PAY for the original "FREE" shipping which obviously is NOT free. The whole thing ended up costing me $120.00---and am STILL without lights. They did not care that the quality of the $800.00 lights was bad!! The worst customer service!!! Don't go here, I baught from LightingDirect---they were the best, they even covered the return shipping.

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!

Horrible customer service!!
$1400 chandelier arrived broken. Called them that day and e-mailed pictures of the damaged item. Over a week later they had not called back re. returning the item. Now they have had payment for over a month.
Once I was able to contact them again they told me that it "could take several weeks" to issue a return label and a refund would not be issued "until the manufacturer had inspected the item" and "that could take several more weeks".
End result- would be too late to get a refund from the credit card company if Lighting Universe refused to issue a credit. 2 to 3 months is too long to return payment for broken merchandise.
I will not use these people again.

I was looking for a light fixture for a new bathroom and could not find one I liked locally.  I was happy with the wide variety of fixtures offered and fairly happy with the timeliness of the delivery.  After having the fixture in place for 3 years two of the three sockets were no longer working.  I thought I was paying a little higher price for a fixture that had the look I wanted and I "assumed" the quality.  I was wrong.  Live chat customer service was of no help.  If you can buy from a "bricks and mortar" I would do so.  I would not purchase anything from Lighting Universe again. 

Follow up.  Contacted the manufacturer directly. Within two quick emails they have offered to replace the fixture for free.  I was amazed at the commitment to customer service!  I was also amazed why Lighting Universe, a distributor, could not have done the same thing.  I received no offer of assistance (essentially the cyber equivalent of a blank stare) and took matters into my own hands with very positive results. I wouldn't recommend that as a fall back when dealing with this online merchant.  I stand by my review above.

DISHONEST business practices:  The product was poor quality.  The glass was rough and chipped.  The finish on the metal was not as represented in the on-line picture.  They back-charged the original (free) shipping to return the product & charged a huge restock fee.  No such thing as "no hassle return" or "free shipping". On-line chat customer 'service' was patronizing at best.  No real effort to assist.  A $400 light is going to cost $150 to return.  Avoid this company.

There were several shopping glitches when trying to complete the process; the PayPal and Credit Card options didn't work. I had to make several attempts before I could successfully purchase the merchandise. If this hadn't been the only place I could find one of my items, I would have gone elsewhere to purchase it out of frustration with their web page glitches. However the product was as advertised, in good shape and received in a timely manner. Except for the website glitches, it's been a positive experience.

It took a little longer to arrive, BUT, when it did, way beyond expectations.  The web site has a huge selection of fixtures, and the one I found was perfect.  The order was accurate, and directions for installing were clear.  We hired a contractor to install, as we didn't want anything to go wrong.  EVERY person that has seen the fixture is impressed, asks where I got it, and the pricing.  I feel it was money well spent, show them the printed material I have and hope they find something that will suit their taste.

I liked the extensive variety of products offered as well as the competitive prices. The products I ordered (3 kitchen ceiling lights) arrived on time, as ordered, undamaged and their quality and appearance were as expected. The only thing I would like to see added to the website is a good description of the glass for the light fixture (had to call customer service to get a specific description because I didn't want to rely entirely on the photo). Overall, I was am very pleased with my purchase.

Purchased two lights to light a picture with, knowing I would be returning one of them.  Received product in fairly reasonable amount of time.  Decided to keep one light and called to return other light.  Upon calling for return authorization they then tell me there is a 35% restocking fee for a 13" light that goes over a picture.  on a product that cost $125 they charges me $44 in restocking fee plus the return shipping.  Keep in mind that I did keep the product that cost me $240.  There was no notice of the restocking fee on my original order.  I talked to three different people at the company and NO HELP whatsoever!!  They were the worst.  Will never purchase from them again!  The worst on-line shopping experience yet!
