Shopping online for clothing is something I'd rather avoid; sizes, fit, quality, selection vary so much among manufacturers. I feel that quality clothing is something that needs to be seen and tried on before purchasing.
Lands' End is a pleasant exemption.
Admittedly, I've been a faithful customer of theirs for a long time with their mail-order catalogs; but online shopping for clothing still is something I avoided until I HAD to make a last-minute decision for a gift and get it delivered FAST.
It was only natural that I turned to Lands' End I suppose. For anyone unfamiliar with this merchant, Lands' End is definitely worth a look. You simply cannot beat the guarantee and service, and that's just the beginning of a shopping experience here.
You can find just about everyone you (and the rest of your family) needs in the way of clothing. That is, unless you are looking for the absolute trendiest hot fashions which will be out of style in six months any way.
Quality and selection at Lands' End can't be beat, especially since the addition of their plus-size clothing and intimates. You nearly always can find the color you want too. And the items you buy lasts and lasts. I'm wearing turtlenecks from Lands End that I bought at least ten years ago and carrying luggage I bought more than 15 years ago.
There are two really special things about their online store that I don't think you'll find any place else. One is a "virtual model". The other is being able to see immediately if an item is in stock, and instantly given a date when it will be available or a selection of comparable choices if you have to have something now. The "virtual model" is pretty cool.
You "build" a mannequin of yourself first. Simple to do with just a little experience with computers. The "model" has your body measurements, hair color and style, as well as your height and weight. Once you build him/her, you can choose clothing and "try it on."
The model can stay in your account forever, ready for the next time you go shopping.
Shipping is fast or faster if you are willing to pay a little extra. If you are ordering a large quantity of things and some are on back-order, they are shipped separately, at no additional charge. You also have the ability to track your order online.
There's nearly always a good selection of clearance items too, sometimes for as much as 75 to 80 percent off.
Besides clothing, Lands' End offers a pretty decent choice of luggage; bedding and bath items (sheets, blankets, towels, rugs), and other household necessities like table linens and some furniture pieces.
Bottom line: If you are looking for quality and a guarantee that will be honored--full refund in cash or replacement if you are not satisfied for any reason, this is the place you want to shop. I once returned a two-year-old dress that I never wore because I didn't like the fit, and got a full refund.
Got the same treatment when I returned a swimsuit I had worn a few times, laundered and the stitching pulled loose on one shoulder.
