Crappy practices, customer service- beware backorders

I placed an order with Kneedraggers for three items, and received all but the third item, a Fog City visor insert to address cold and humid weather fogging issues. There was nothing in the invoice paperwork stating the status of this item. Their site showed it was drop shipped, even though this particular item did in fact did not ship. I waited a few days, still no insert or communication. Finally called them and was informed that it happened to go on backorder "just" after I placed the order. I question the timing of that and personally think they probably knew when I placed the order, rather than later that day when everything else shipped. The backorder did not stop them from charging my card, though. (I thought that was illegal..)
When I followed up I asked them if they could tell me how long I would have to wait and they said that they cannot give me any estimate whatsoever. The funny thing is that I looked online at this item on their site and see no mention that it is backordered. (I even tried adding it to a shopping cart to see if they would be forthcoming with that information.) Frankly, I feel the handling of this transaction has been unacceptable, showing poor customer service on a number of points. Thed fact that they do a lot of drop shipping means they have less control over inventory management and order handling. I would recommend dealing with other vendors instead.
