Full review
I started shopping at JTV in June 2006. I found the quality and price of the jewelry and the courtesy of their customer service personnel to be excellent. I continued to purchase jewelry items throughout 2007 including several pieces of the red and green andecine-labordrite which they were marketing as "genuine, untreated gemstones", which they later admitted they were in fact treated. JTV tried to pretend they didn't know, but I don't think many people believed it. In fact ,in 2007 JTW was involved and eventually settled two class action lawsuits which required them to issue a full purchase refund to anyone who requested one in writing. I did return all of the andecine-labradorite and received a full refund for all pieces.
In addition to the andecine-labradorite incident, I found I was returning at least half of my purchases each month - defective clasps, loose stones, etc. This left me very uncomfortable. In addition, JTV is charging excess for shipping. For example, if you purchase three items on line totaling $60.00, you will be paying $14.97 which is 25% of your total order!
Since January 2009, I have purchased several items from Ross-Simons and though I pay more, I have never received a defective piece, nor have I been treated unfairly. Also the shipping charge for orders up to $250 is $7.95 at and is free for orders over $250. This is not meant to be an advertisement for Ross-Simons, but simply to point out that on-line jewelry buying is great if you are getting quality merchandise and reasonable shipping charges.
In conclusion, maybe all of us should remember an old saying, "You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear" or "You get what you pay for."
