Everything arrived dead - TWICE
Full review
I placed a sizeable order with J&P because, like most, I was wooed by their pretty catalog. What a mistake. The first time I received their plants, they were dead. I'm not sure if it was the poor packaging, the rough treatment from the USPS or the fact that they baked in a truck for over a week that was the actual cause of death. Everything in the box was a crispy jumble of dirt, dried stems and withered leaves. It was as though the plants were just dumped into a box that was taped and drop-kicked into the delivery pile. When I complained to customer service, I offered to pay an exorbitant fee to have the plants shipped by overnight carrier, but guess what - I could only get them via the USPS. I don't know about other areas of the country, but the Philadelphia USPS doesn't appear to care if a package says "fragile," "live plants" or "priority mail." Naturally, the replacement plants were dead as well, even the bareroot roses which should have been a little more tolerant of the post office's abuse. Customer service was apathetic, e-mails went unanswered and all I got from Jackson & Perkins was a nice headache. I'll never use a company that has so little regard for my requests - even those that I clearly and repeatedly state that I'll pay extra for.
