I recently purchased a crib mattress from the JC Penney Online Store, and was quite disappointed at first.
When the item was delivered, the plastic it came in had a big tear in the bottom. I didn't think anything of it until I took the mattress out and flipped it over.
Not only had the mattress been cut as well, but it had a stain that looked like the mattress had gotten wet. It was a rather large brown stain on the bottom corner that went about 1/4 of the way up the mattress on both sides. It has obviously sat in water for some time. There was no way I was going to put my newborn baby on this mattress.
Not only was I not sure if there was mold/mildew inside the mattress, but I didn't want to risk putting her on a cut mattress like that. Even putting it cut side down worried me.
I contacted customer service and the first representative I talked to basically told me that all sales were final, and I wouldn't be able to return it because they couldn't prove that the damage was done by them. The next day, I called customer service again, and spoke with another representative. I kindly told her that I didn't know if she'd be able to help me so she might should just transfer me to a supervisor. She just asked me to explain to her what the problem was. After explaining it, she informed me that not only could I return it, but I could take it directly to the store, and she would have another mattress over-nighted to the store so that I could exchange the mattress. She also gave me credit because of the problems I had with the mattress. She apologize about the representative I had spoken with the previous day and explained that the rep. was new.
After all was said and done, I was very satisfied with the outcome. Although it was an inconvenience because I had to find somewhere else for my daughter to sleep, I am glad that the problem was resolved. I would highly recommend shopping online with JC Penney. It was a great experience and I will buy from them again.
