Not The Best

I chanced upon the Dane-Elec DNL DA2IN116GR 16GB microSDHC Memory Card at a good price online at JR.com and decided to purchase the card for my son's portable gaming system.

When I ordered the product from JR.com, there was no indication that the item was out-of-stock.  I used Google Checkout to pay and thought everything had gone smoothly.  Unfortunately, that was not the case.

Several days later, I still had not received any word on the status of my order and decided to contact JR.com for an update.  Someone from JR got back to me informing me that the product I ordered was on back order.  If I had not initiated contact first, I would not have known this.  I was informed that my order would "take priority" however, there was no ETA on when the product would become available again.  To make matters worse, I had already been charged through Google Checkout for the full price of a product that was not even available.  Nevertheless, I decided that it would be too much of a hassle to request for a refund and that a few days delay would be of no consequence.  Bad idea.

I received notice yesterday that the item I ordered had finally shipped; just as I was about to cancel the order in favor of a better SDHC card at a lower cost from another competitor.  My order at JR.com was processed on June 9.  It's already June 30 and I am still waiting on my purchase.

I feel that I was miseld by JR.com and would not recommend anyone to purchase from their online store.  Furthermore, the customer service response I received was disappointing to say the least.  I find it unethical that JR.com would keep selling a product online without preparing to match order fulfillment; then informing (at the customer's request) the customer  AFTER THE FACT that payment has been received.  I find this absolutely appalling and unprofessional.

I would also like to point out that when I received the email response from JR.com that the item I ordered was out of stock, I went on the website to check for availability.  The item was still available for sale WITHOUT any indication that the item was out of stock.  If they had already known by this time that they could no longer fulfill orders, then why still offer the item for sale?  That leads me to conclude that customers were intentionally misled.

To add to the aggravation, once I finally got the notice that my item had been shipped, I would expect that JR.com would at least provide me with tracking information.  Instead, the email they sent me states "no tracking available."  Wonderful.  I find it difficult to believe that JR.com is outdone by fly-by-night electronics stores located in Hong Kong that I have done business with in the past, when it comes to something as simple as shipment tracking information.

In the future, I shall stick with Newegg, Tiger Direct, Fry's and Amazon.  Fast.  Simple.  Secure.  Most importantly, these companies would be honest enough to inform me if something is on backorder without having to wait for me to ask.
