NO QUALITY CONTROL - WHAT A MESS!
by renomom, November 19, 2009

I ordered the Tansu step Chest which came in two very heavy boxes and was dumped on the doorstep by UPS. After spending literally HOURS assembling the item (there are FIFTY-SIX pieces to assemble), we got the to the final step of assembling the drawers and lo-and-behold, NONE OF THE DRAWERS FIT! You MUST be kidding! It is obviously a defect from the manufacturer that needs to be addressed, but customer service insists that they have had no other returns of this item. Of course, they have never assembled it themselves or they would know it is a defect that must be corrected from the manufacturer. Instead, they are content to keep selling a defective item regardless of the effect it has on their customers. If you are going to order from this vendor, may I suggest you order only small, easy-to-return items. Now we get to UN-assemble the entire mess and send it back! Several more hours completely wasted! What a worthless effort! I cannot in all good conscience recommend this vendor. Try elsewhere.

WOW!

We purchased a 12v cordless grass clipper from Improvements. Close to a year later my husband ask me to get a replacement battery as the one we had didn't stay charged. I called the site and ask if they had replacement batteries. They did and told me they would be sending it to me free of charge. Wow! A few days later I got a call from the store telling me they didn't have a replacement battery and would be sending me a new clipper. A $60 item. I guess, unknown to us, there must have been a year warranty on the item and I called about three days before the year was up. I would have happily paid for a new battery but they went above and beyond. This store has one of the best customer service departments I have ever dealt with.

JUNK MAIL NIGHTMARE!!!!
by pooponimpcat, April 24, 2008

Forget this company. They will take your info and sell it to junk mailers despite Their innocent sounding privacy policy. Their customer service is equally aggravating/insolent. Finding out who was signing me up for all this junk mail was aggravating enough, but getting Improvements Catalog to stop sending me catalogs was the icing on the turd-flavored cake. If you're looking for a company that completely disrespects your privacy and wants to bludgeon you with advertising than feel free to use this company. If you like not having thirty pieces of junk in your mail box everyday you should go elsewhere.
HSN and IAC should be ashamed of themselves for stooping to such tasteless sales tactics. |

Overpriced Made in China junk

I ordered several items for gifts and was very disappointed in the quality of the items-- some were just laughably bad. For example, a fake palm tree consisted of a pipe for a trunk and the fronds were exactly like the branches on a fake Christmas tree. Even at half price this was a very bad buy. I did some research on other items I purchased and discovered that even at 25% off they were overpriced. For example, a log splitter that HI priced at $99 can be gotten from Northern Tool Company for $54. I'll be asking to be taken off their mailing list.

In my experience buying an item online from an unfamiliar or untried retailer can be a crapshoot ending in a great experience or snake eyes. Even dealing with a well-known site can be iffy as is evidenced by the mixed reviews on this site and others. My

Horrible service and too many excuses

Do yourself a favor and skip this merchant. I ordered two items. About a week later I was told one of them was back ordered for four to six weeks. I emailed to cancel the back ordered item and was told it could not be canceled but I could refuse shipment. I have no idea why they won't allow their customers to cancel an order that they can't ship for a month or more anyway. I got on the phone, an hour on hold and same story. A couple days later I got an email that the other item is also back ordered. Guess what? They wouldn't let me cancel that one either. Worst customer service ever. Run!

Misrepresented # 251411 "Stainless Steel" Pepper Mill was all Plastic, poor quality from China !

The Ad for the item below is not correct and misleading from Improvements Online.
Electric Pepper Mill Item #251411 $18.99 Lighted, Electronic Pepper Mill. Just press the button on top of this stainless steel body and watch the battery-powered mill grind fresh peppercorns over your favorite dishes. The pepper mill is 100% PLASTIC. Ordering the misrepresented, deceptive, and poor quality item cost me $7.75 in original shipping and $5.25 to return it, or a total of $13.00 as a less not to order from Improvements Online ever again. |

I have to admit that I'm a sucker for the latest gadget. That's why I reviewed smarthome.com a few months ago, as it had some pretty cool x-10 stuff that I liked. Improvementscatalog.com has some great stuff too. I first became aware of this site

Received merchandise on time and in good condition with easy assembly information included. Shipping charge was raised, but not by much (under $2), so this is not a complaint. I would definitely order through this merchant again.

Item ordered is on back order. At the intial time I placed the order there was no indication that item was out of stock. I received a follow up email notifying that item was out of stock and that it would be filled as soon as the new orders came in.

Interesting catalog, lots of what I call "neato" (aka Brookstone type) tools/solutions.
Decided to order their US-Flag-pole setup. Find out they have no inventory control, as even though they initially reported in-stock, my order got stalled Read full review... |
