Furniture often damaged. They don't really refund you the amount they say.

I bought three furniture items (bench with storage drawers $550, two wooden tilt out hampers $200 each). Bench had several problems including slightly crooked drawers and nick in the finish. They offered to take money off when I called They offered $75 I asked for $150 and they said fine and credited my card. The bench clearly didn't go through any quality control. They said they sometimes miss things like this but it is very rare.

I ordered two beautiful wooden tilt out hampers with marble tops (on sale). The deliery charges came to $150. When they came, I only opened one and found that it was packaged extremely well (molded foam outer, plastic wrap inner, around the entire piece.) The box was not damaged during delivery, however, after taking off all the layers of protective packing, I found a severely damaged peice of furniture. The tilt out door was ripping off the "drawer sides" and the nails were exposed.

I called to tell them and on the phone they were nice, offered to take $75 (for what? for me to bring it to a furniture repair place and have them tell me the door can't be secured back to the drawer?) They said they'd send me a prepaid mailing lable and that they'd refund all my money (and stated the total amount, inlcuding the shipping I paid).

I got a letter from them when they received my items saying they got them and I will see the refund in my next bill (they didn't mention the amount of the refund in that letter.)

Three weeks later I got my credit card bill just to find that they only refunded me the cost of the items, not the shipping. When I called, the customer service person said that they don't usually refund shipping but that he can talk to the manger about making the additional adjustment for me since I say that the items were damaged.

WHAT A SCAM! It is clear that they are experts at unloading damaged furniture and if you send it back, they know there is a good chance you won't check your credit card bill to see if the amount matches what they told you. They are probably are often able to get away with not having to refund what they promised without anyone being the wiser!

I will never buy anything from them again, ever. They should be investigated for consumer fraud. I wonder how many other people have had similar SCAM-like experiences with them.
