I am extremely irritated by the customer service recently demonstrated by Home Decorators Collection. I ordered an area rug via Amazon.com which I've always been pleased with, but after placing the order on Amazon.com, all other business is conducted directly with Home Decorators Collection.
I was shopping for a large area rug and, based on the picture and written description provided by Home Decorators, thought I had found one that matched our interior decor color requirements. Note that I also requested a rug swatch prior to ordering but they don't provide these. Thus based on the information they provided for the rug, specifically that the rug was BEIGE, I purchased the area rug through Amazon.com which offers less expensive shipping.
However, upon receipt of this $800 area rug, I was disappointed to see that the rug was not beige at all, but was actually a gold tan color. Thus I wanted to exchange (not even return) the area rug for another one. Since the color description error was on their end (not merely because I changed my mind), Home Decorators should have absorbed the expense of shipping the rug back, as Pottery Barn and other reputable companies do. Yet, Home Decorators refused and I am now faced with paying hundreds of dollars to ship back this rug (it's an 8x11, 70 lb rug) that does not fit the description that they provided and I therefore trusted to make my purchase decision. I caution all consumers to beware when purchasing from Home Decorators as if you purchase an item relying on their pictures and descriptions, you could be out a lot of money to return it to them.
