I WILL NOT USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN!
I ordered an area rug from HomeDecorators.com in early January 2007; it took 6 MONTHS to RECEIVE this item!! My credit card had been charged twice (I did get refunded one charge) and there are STILL $82 in shipping charges which we have yet to be refunded. I've called customer service 3 times and will probably need to speak to a manager again if the first shipping charges are not refunded. Overall, it was not worth the hassle, and definitely not for low-quality items! I feel like this company is one step away from a SCAM. They are internet based, advertise heavily, and can therefore afford to turn off customers because there will always be a new, unsuspecting customer in a different city.
The website and catalog are pretty great, they seem to have a large selection of nice items for good prices - but that is how they get you! I have heard from one person, however, that item quality is dependent upon what types of items you buy, small knick-knacks might be more satisfactory.
For 6 months we received emails stating that our ordered item was still out of stock and would be expected in the next month. They even sent me a letter offering a 20% discount on my next order - but why would I order from them again when I hadn't received my initial order? FINALLY, towards the end of June, they notified me via email that it had been shipped. I clicked on the Fedex link to track it. Every day this link said something different, and by the end of 5 business days it told me nothing. Essentially, their items are untrackable. I called Fedex, and they said they did NOT have this item in their possession! I contacted Home Decorators Customer Service. They explained to me that a label had been created and the item was shipped from Mexico, Missouri, and that when it came to my state, Fedex would sign for it and then I would be able to track the item on the Fedex website. This did not make much sense to me.
You will NOT believe what happened next! A week later I received another email from Home Decorators.com stating my item had been RETURNED to the warehouse, and that apparently they had discovered that they shipped the WRONG ITEM to me. I asked to speak with a Manager, who apologized in a surprisingly meek and cold way. (I should have cancelled my order long ago, but I was in love with this rug and had already designed the space in my mind.) The Manager stated they would refund my initial order, that the item was in stock, and then give me a 25% discount and re-order the rug for me. They notified me via email when they had shipped the re-ordered item and they charged my card the promised discounted rate. A few days later I received the refund for the first charge, however, there are $82 in SHIPPING CHARGES, which they have not yet refunded! Once again, I spoke to the same manager, who stated they will refund the $82.
When I finally received the item, they just left it outside our front door without requiring a signature. The rug arrived in a filthy plastic bag which was ripped in several spots, making parts of the rug dirty. The colors are different shades than the online picture or magazine picture, different enough that I have to change my planned wall color. The quality is "poor" to "fair" at best. I'm extremely disappointed and outraged.
