Cons: the shoes I wanted were reported as in stock but weren’t

Bottom line: They had the shoes I wanted at the best price and I got them within a week.

A few weeks ago, I had knee pain and saw my doctor. He diagnosed me with arthritis and said that my knees had degenerated enough so that I shouldn’t run. I hadn’t for a while but I was doing some light running as part of playing basketball in my driveway for aerobics. Bicycling is ok and I am still doing it. He also mentioned that I needed to lose a lot of weight for a lot of reasons and the knees were among them.

So I took a look at some of my practices and habits to see where I could enhance my health by doing different things. One thing I noticed is that my casual shoes were running shoes that had been around for years. So, I figured I could use running shoes with good protection and stability for casual shoes and that might prevent further degeneration, at least a little.

I went online and identified the New Balance 817 as having good features that met my needs. I then looked online for the best price. I had previously identified Holabird as a potential vendor by flipping through running magazines on the newsstand for price competitive dealers. Of course, I check out the links available through Epinions. I also checked out some of the other price comparison services as well. No one else had a price as good as Holabird.

Holabirdsports.com had a special where their price was lower than the competition by $20, at $69.95 a pair and they were offering free shipping. The free ground shipping special for orders totaling $59.95 or more continues.

My size was in stock, so I turned in an order.

The web site was fast and responsive. I had no problem locating the shoe and adding a pair in my size to the online shopping cart. Entering credit card information was fast and happened without a hitch. I got an email receipt with an order number right away after doing the order on a Thursday night. The web site said that they ship within 2 business days.

I got a phone message on Saturday saying they were stocked out even though the shoes were showing as in stock. On the other hand, they were restocked and shipped on Monday so Holabird met their promise of shipping within 2 business days.

The shoes that came were wonderful. I am very happy I ordered from them.

I wasn’t thrilled about them showing they had the shoes when they didn’t, but they did keep their delivery promise.
