I had been wanting a new mattress for quite some time, but my husband kept putting off shopping for one.   I bought a topper somewhere that helped for a few years, but eventually it needed replacing.  My husband finally deigned to stop at ONE mattress store, and agreed with me that the memory foam beds seemed comfortable, but he was not paying the high prices for the Tempurpedic bed.  I began looking online and was extremely impressed with the Healthy Foundation website.  At that time (August 2007) there were about 383 reviews on this site, and I read them all!!

So though my husband thought I was crazy to order a mattress online, I did so anyway.  I bought a foundation at a local furniture store--I loved how Healthy Foundations actually steers you to less expensive options.   The day our mattress came I was so excited, but worried that my husband would find the mattress too soft.  We opened it up and aired it out.  My first night on it was such a shock--it was MUCH firmer than I expected.   After a few nights on it I finally called the HF customer service number.  I was almost in tears from disappointment.   I asked if the mattresses loosen up and get softer after they are unpacked a few days. 

The man said they might, but probably not to the degree for which I was hoping.   He said though most find the level of firmness to be ideal, everyone is different.  The few people who return the mattress gave this as the reason most often.   He suggested I try adding the two inch topper before returning the mattress.  I asked if it wouldn't just be more of the same thing, and he said no, the topper is softer and most people find it solves the problem.   I said I just couldn't spend the extra money at this time after buying the mattress.  He said they wanted me to be happy and offered to send the topper AT NO EXTRA CHARGE.   They did, and it was absolutely wonderful!  Now this is the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in, and I still smile every night when I lie down, even a year and half later.  (I must say it did not cure me of aches and pains, nor stop my occasional snoring--but I do think I sleep better!)

I also got the pillows and mattress protector when I ordered the mattress, and I love them.   I later requested another mattress protector as a backup.   So although I was not pleased with the mattress by itself, the combination is all I could have hoped for.  I see they now offer a 13 inch mattress that sounds softer. 

I hesitated for 1 1/2 years to write in my experience because I don't want to cause the company any problems with people claiming their mattresses are too hard and demanding free toppers!   This level of customer service is so remarkable, and rare.   It can be a scary thing to order an expensive item off the Internet so I want to reassure people that Healthy Foundations is a wonderful company with which to do business.
