Half.com has been super. I know alot of students who have gotten great deals on textbooks.

I have also found some excellent deals on books. At one time, I was helping decorate a baby's room and wanted to find Anne Geddes prints to frame. All of the new books were really costly. However, I got on half.com and got tons of wonderful picture books for extremely low prices. When I got them, I removed the mom's favorite pictures and framed them. The room turned out absolutely adorable. People could not believe we did it on such a low budget.

In other cases, where I have been interested in a scholarly topic, the books have been close to $100. However, when I go to half.com, I can often find them for much, much less.

I am always careful to check a seller's rating. I have had two circumstances where the seller did not ship. Actually, in one case, she shipped but it never came. In the other, a family situation prevented shipment. In both cases, the seller was extremely kind, apologized, and sent the book free of charge. I was amazed at the excellent service.

I also like the service where you can put your sale items "on hold" until you get back from vacation. This prevents having to ship books quickly when it is inconvenient.

If I ever need a book, I always check half.com first, even before ebay. There is a huge selection of books and music and I can often find most of what I need.

In addition, the service has been great. The sellers have always sent books that were in very good condition. Most of the books have basically been in like new condition, with the exception of a name or a few markings. Of course, this goes by the condition of the item you pick, but my results have generally been better than the category I picked.

All in all, I would recommend half.com as a starting place for books or music.
