Full review
This is concerning RedOctane's rental service.
1. Their website is way out of date. November 2003 is the magic date... that's the date that the website was last updated. None of the games released since then have any descriptions and the majority of the games classified as "upcoming games" or "new releases" are from Nov. 2003.
Many games which have been delayed show as already released on their website. Dead or Alive Ultimate for Xbox is a good example.. Their website says it's been release and is ready for rental, but once it's in your queue its status is NYA.
2. They do have a large selection of game but they do not have enough inventory to cover demand. I currently have 50 games in my queue, 15 of those are "available now", 10 are "short wait" and 25 are "long wait". So only 30% of the games in my queue are available for rental and 50% won't be available anytime soon.
3. Their turnaround time stinks. I live in Sunnyvale and have a PO Box in the same office as they do. When I drop my games off at the post office I KNOW they receive the games the next day at the latest. Despite this it still takes them up to 3 days to ship off a new game.
4. I signed up with Gamefly the same day as I did RedOctane. I have received twice as many games from Gamefly as I have from RedOctane despite the 2 days it takes for the games to travel down to their processing center in LA. I will be canceling my RedOctane service next week, I gave them a month and was disappointed with the service.
