Guess what I bought today?

A review by Peggy038 written on Aug 16, 2001

Pros:  Convenient shopping, large selection

Cons:  Without going to the mall how can you be tempted by Ben & Jerry's?

The Bottom Line:  I think you will enjoy the shopping experience and its a great place if you are "just looking" too.

I am still stuck in a hotel room in a small town in Texas. But I have not let that stop me from shopping.

Last month my husband looked at our credit card bill and told me how proud he was of me, because even though we live in a mall free zone I still manage to spend a nice tidy sum.

On to Guess.com, what a great site! They have everything, dresses, jeans, shoes, accessories (which include belts, jewelry, and fragrances), denim jackets, and skirts.

I first went to this site because I wanted white jeans and just couldn't find them anywhere in my size. I knew what size Guess jeans I wear so I decided to see if they had a web site yet.

YES, they do as it turns out and not only that but they had the jeans on sale. I ended up saving $20 before shipping and handling. I chose the priority shipping which was only $5.95 (reasonable) and so I still came out ahead and I got just what I wanted, and in a timely fashion.

Guess is not just denim clothing and casual wear, as some might think. They have added a wonderful dress collection. It is called "Guess Collection" (how original).

The Guess Collection is womens fashions, which are sophisticated, no visible logos, stylish, classic cuts.

Dresses seem to be in the $118.00 range mostly. I will no doubt wait till they have a sale to actually purchase from this new line of Guess.

They have a beautiful halter dress available in cranberry or black and it goes for $118.00, also an exotic floral that is just stunning for $118.00.

The regular Guess dresses that are on sale right now are much less expensive. For example a very cute denim halter dress was $74.00 and is now $49.99.

The jeans are the typical Guess priced jeans, but if you click on the SALE you can find quite a few to choose from that are between $10.00 and $30.00 off. The jeans sizes range from 0/1 (24) and 11/12 (32), they include a measurement chart and supply directions for its use.

They have some great looking shoes, but I have not purchased any yet because I always hesitate to order shoes on line or by catalog. I prefer to try shoes on before I buy. Most of the shoes they offer look like "single girl" shoes anyway, very high heels.

Guess has a feature on building your wardrobe. They show you how by adding just a simple pair of pants to your wardrobe you can build a lot of different new looks. They demonstrate how you can go from work, out to a nice dinner, and play wearing the same pair of pants, dressed up then dressed down.

I can see where this could be a useful thing to know for someone like me that travels a lot and finds that my luggage has decided to go some where different than my final destination. (I have learned since to always have a carry on)

Another feature at this site is the "Editor's Pick's". The fashion editors tell you what their favored picks are for the fashion season. Guess features a different magazines fashion director or editor. For example, this months features Sasha Charnin Morrison, Fashion Market Director of Allure.

Previous months have featured fashion editors from Teen People and Glamour.

At this time (this "time" being August 01) Guess is offering a small selection of swimsuits up to 50% off. I was only able to find two piece suits but they did also have some cute coverups.

Guess Baby is adorable. When you click on Baby you see cute little denim jackets and jeans, for Toddlers they even have little studded jeans and jackets (so cute). For newborns they have softer clothing, typical babywear.

If you sign up for Guess email you get special offers and they sent me a recent email announcement inviting me to check out the Guess Clearance on line store.

There were many great values there and no doubt I will be placing an order in the next couple of days through the Clearance site, however, there are no refunds or exchanges when purchased through clearance. So if you order there you should already be familiar with the size that will fit you and know that what you order will work well for you.

Some of the items at the Guess clearance site are Bali Scrunch front dress was $70 now $24.99, Heart tee was $26.00 now $9.99, Basic slit skirt was $46.00 now $19.99, and Rainmaker Dress (a rose mesh) was $52.00, now $19.99.

Right now the Guess web site (www.Guess.com) is running a sweepstakes, Shoe A Month Sweepstakes, which expires September 4, 2001.

I realize some of this information will become dated in a few months. When it does I will come back and update. I am just so enthused about being able to shop for some great fashionable clothes while living in a town that's only store is one Walmart (nothing against Walmart but I need other stores too).

If you prefer to shop in stores the web site does offer a store locator. You type in your state and it gives you a list of the Guess locations in your state. There is also an outlet locator there.

I hope if you go there you enjoy the site.
